So confused!!

Chat Icon Maybe someone could help me!! I am looking to obtain my professional certification. I have checked NYSED and I am getting all different answers. If I hold an Inital certificate do I need the ATS-P? I was under the assumption that I did but now the website is saying different.

Could I be wrong? what does the intial become? I thought it was professional!

Thanks!

Re: So confused!!

It should say on the back of your license the details. I do not have it infront of me, but I thought the initial becomes professional after like 3 years and a certain amount of development hours.

Re: So confused!!

If you are under the new rules (initial certificate where you have to log a certain amount of hours) then I don't think you need to do the video. However, if you are under the old rules (provisional and permanent certification) then you do have to do the video. The video is getting phased out.

Re: So confused!!

If your initial is post February 2004 - then the video is no longer required. You will have to do a portfolio for 3 years - it is one of the steps to go from initial to professional.

instead of a video, the new requirements is a teacher portfolio. It has to have 3 pieces of work (lesson or unit plans) for the beginning, middle and end of the year. It should demonstrate your growth as a teacher throughout your first three years.

honestly, I would have rather done the video!! It takes me hours to put the portfolio together!
