Phone Interview

Its been a few years since I've been out there interviewing and I've never had a phone interview. Is this very common? What kind of questions can I expect? Am I also allowed to ask questions, so that I can see if its worth my time?

Thanks.

I've had 3 or 4 phone interviews. it's great b/c you can even wear your PJ's and no one would ever know lol!

expect the same types of questions as you would during a face to face interview. and of course you can ask questions. in fact, I highly recommend doing that! ask more about the position unless they go into a lot of detail, ask how soon they're looking to fill the position. ask about travel if it's not mentioned, but don't bring up salary!

I think phone interviews are more common now than they used to be.

Re: Phone Interview

A lot of companies are using phone interviews as a screening process. As a previous poster stated, expect the same types of questions. You should prepare the same way you would for any other interview.

I advise people that they shouldn't get too comfortable though - avoid wearing sweats and sitting in a couch. Dress up a little, sit up straight and have your information in front of you. Dressing up helps to keep most people in a more professional frame of mind. Also sitting up straight helps you to sound more confident and have a stronger voice. Don't forget to smile, it makes you sound more friendly and likeable.

And don't forget to send a thank you note. Good luck.

Sounds like a great idea. I will have to take this call on my lunch hour. I will be dressed for work, and in my "work mode" which I think will help me. I offered to have to interview before or after business hours, but the woman is only available at 1pm.

Ditto. I had two for the job I just got. The first was a screening-type call from the recruiter/hr person. the second was with my soon-to-be boss. I'm assuming the point of that one was to see if it was worth it to have me come in and have a face-to-face.
