Bleeding in early pregnancy question (TMI) - Updated 5/7/07
Hi - I am sorry I can't come onto this board and introduce myself under better circumstances, however, I just found out I was pregnant last week, and this week I had some light bleeding.
To give the background, I am about 5 weeks pregnant. On Wednesday night, I went to the gym and took a pilates class. When I left class there was a there was a teaspoon sized stain of red blood in my underwear. This was followed by pink blood when i wiped, and later followed by a very, very small amounts of brown blood yesterday.
Of course, I have been hysterical for the past two days and everything I am reading tells me that people can go on to have normal pregnancies after bleeding like this, but many times it is an indication of a MC. I called the doctor and he had me go get blood taken, and I have to go again tomorrow to get more taken so they can check that my numbers are still rising. It is too early in the pregnancy for a sono.
I was wondering if anyone had any experiences similar to this and if they could share what ended up happening. If the baby was okay, or if they went on to have a MC. Or if you have just heard of anything like this...... I am probably not going to find out until Monday if everything is okay and i am going a little bit crazy. I am trying to prepare for the worst but hoping for the best.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. TIA
Update - my Doc. just called and my numbers from the blood test were right where they should be. That doesnt mean that i didnt MC though - I will have to wait until Monday morning to find out the results of Saturday's test to make sure my numbers are still going up. Please continue to share if you have any info!!! Thank you all so much for this info - it is really helping me get thru the day....
Update - 5/7/07 - My numbers went up and according to the doctor everything is GREAT!!!! I am sooo relieved!!!!! I just wanted to say thank you all so much for your kind posts and FMs. This board is really fantastic!!!!!!! Plus we moved my first sono appt up by a week so i will be going in on May 25th!!!!

Re: Bleeding in early pregnancy question (TMI)
Plenty of girls had early bleeding/spotting.
Since you called the dr, I suggest taking it easy this weekend.
One of my co-worker had that at the beginning of her PG. She is now 11 wks PG. We was taking progesterone suppos.

I had some brown spotting around 11 weeks or so that lasted for a week. I was also going to the gym at the time & my dr. told me to lay low for a week or 2 until it subsides. All was fine though.

Re: Bleeding in early pregnancy question (TMI)
I had spotting around that time too, but the end result is in my avatar! It's very, very common. My ob told me that over half of the women they see have spotting. I know it's impossible not to worry, but everything is probably just fine. I hope you get good results back from your blood work!

Re: Bleeding in early pregnancy question (TMI)
I had it too, losts of spotting, almost every day brown and a few instances of red. Most importantly, dont worry! I worried for nothing! The next couple of weeks will be a bit stressful (worrying about the little one until you reach the 2nd tri) but it gets better, hang in there!!

I have no answers for you, just try to relax a little. Go shopping, a nice dinner, get a pedicure this weekend.

I think I heard once that there can be old blood or left over blood in the uterus and it can shed in early pregnancy.
I'm sure everything is fine. Try to relax over the weekend.

Re: Bleeding in early pregnancy question (TMI) - Updated
There are LOTS of reasons for blood subchorionic hematoma(pocket of blood) Blood lakes made by the blastocyst from implantation(implantation bleeding)
Irritated cervix-blood vessels swell in pregnancy and things that wouldn't have irritated them before may now. Ask your Dr what your progesterone #'s are, if low get supplementation.
Think the best until you are proven otherwise. I have been there and i know its tough but the best thing you can do is remain positive. GL

Re: Bleeding in early pregnancy question (TMI) - Updated
I had some bleeding in my first trimester 8-9 weeks, I was terrified that I was going to miscarry. My doctor said that approximately 1/3 of all of her patients who have full term pregnancies had some bleeding early on. So, it is quite common. I had a healthy full term pregnancy (almost 41 weeks!)

As hard as it is, try not to stress and worry, it's not good for the baby!
Spotting and some bleeding are very common in pregnancies.
Hope to hear good news on Monday!

Re: Bleeding in early pregnancy question (TMI) - Updated
I had some spotting a couple weeks ago, around week 7 I think. It was very light, and started out as pinkish blood then became brown over the next two days. The spotting lasted 3 days total.
Of course, the day I freaked out and called my doctor, it stopped! She thought it was because I had an examination the week before, and I also have a small polyp on my cervix (which can cause bleeding). Everything was fine though--they could do a sono, and the baby had a heartbeat.
I would try not to worry about it too much since your levels are going up and it sounds as if the spotting is light. This does happen to a lot of women from what I hear.

I know, it's hard to relax, but it sounds as if you are doing okay.
The only thing that helped me during this time was my exhaustion--I slept through a good part of the days till I got to the doctor.

Re: Bleeding in early pregnancy question (TMI) - Updated
I just wanted to post that I had actual bleeding with both of my PG's more than once. More with my 2nd PG. Everything turned out great!
With my 1st PG I bled only 2 times. Around 7.5 weeks and around 9 weeks. My 2nd PG I bled before 7 weeks, at 8.5 weeks, spotted brown around 10 weeks and bled again at 13.5 weeks. Let's just say I'm very close with my OB/GYN and staff! I was their favorite. I had very rough 1st trimesters with both PG's. After that, I didn't have any more bleeding but I had a couple more scares with the 2nd PG. They couldn't figure out why I was bleeding any of the times. Only 2 of the times they thought I bled might of been from sex and from the placenta being close to my cervix. They weren't sure though.
Anyway, I just wanted to share that even though I bled, it doesn't always mean something bad. A lot of people will tell you that as long as it is brown, not red, you're fine. They say that red is bad. It's definitely not true all of the time! I only spotted brown once, all the other times were bright red and more than a spec.
Here are some Good luck on Monday. I won't say try not to worry, because you will anyway!

Try not to stress to much the same thing happened to me and I am 15 weeks today. I also went to the gym and had some spotting after. I started to take it easy at the gym, only doing the treadmill and so far so good.

seriously, dont waste your time worrying! I spotted brown for weeks in a row. Like, enough to fill a pantyliner. My FIL is an obgyn and he said this is soo common. Its still implantation. Implantation can go on for weeks (which I never knew). Its the placenta making its way into your uterus. Please dont worry
