How many applications?

I graduate May 29, and I, like many of you, am on the job search. So far, I have sent out resumes/applied to 25 districts and schools. Is this normal? Have the rest of you sent out more? Less? I just wanted to know if I'm on target. I've never done this before! Already I'm

Very normal.

It is extremely competitive right now... many, many graduates out there then there are always the people who teach in the city who are looking for jobs out here. You have to keep plugging away. It's very different from getting a job in business.

It comes and goes in waves over the years. I had to teach in Catholic school for three years 94-97 before landing my public school job in Aug 97.. for 2 1/2 years I sent out resumes to almost every district in two states. I would spend every Sunday making cover letters and every Monday morning for 2 1/2 years I would show up to Hicksville P.O. to mail out my envelopes. Yes, they knew me there.

Dual certification or knowing a foreign language really helps no matter what your area. The woman who is filling in for my leave replacement teaching AP world history is fluent in French and Arabic

i cant even begin to count how many resumes I have sent out this year and in the prior years. I think probably close to 80 or so between email, mail and online apps.

Definitely depends upon what subject area you are looking to teach.
