If you saw something cute on someone, would ask them where they got it?

edited to add: If you saw something cute on complete stranger, like someone passing on the street or on the train, etc.

I have, many times. I think it's a great compliment.
ETA: I took the question to be about strangers, so my answer reflects that. I approach strangers (as long as they look peace-loving  ) all the time.

I guess it would depend on if I knew the person or not. I wouldn't be able to ask a stranger "cute shoes, where did you get them".....
But if was someone I knew. I would definitely ask.

I talk to strangers all the time. Especially if I'm at a club/bar bathroom and I see someone with a cute purse.

I have done that too-- I don't usually ask where they got it, but if I really planned to buy it I would.
I love when strangers complement me, so I think it's fun to do it when the mood strikes.
