questions for c sections and bf mommies
Is it true you have have to wake baby every 2 hours for feedings? Even through the night? What are your limiatations after birth. I have been told nothing but rest and take care of baby for 6-8 weeks, seems a little hard to beleive, When many people go back to work after this time. Any answers are appreciated TY

Re: questions for c sections and bf mommies
The Lactation Consultant told me that the pattern can be set in the hospital, but that I should expect to feed 8 times a day. She also said that this does not stay the same as the milk develops & matures, and also a good way to make sure the baby is satisfied is to make sure that the breast is drained at each feeding, since the hind milk has all the fatty makeup.
I would recommend talking to a LC and getting some more tips & ask questions about what you are not sure of.
(I also bought a co-sleeper for the first few months home, since it attaches to the bed & will help me heal b/c I won't have to get up to feed the baby).

Re: questions for c sections and bf mommies
I ended up having a c section and bfing and it's not as bad as you would expect, if at all. In the hospital the nurses were great at bringing the baby right to me for feedings and when I got home the baby slept right next to me. I actually think that being forced to get out of bed and get the baby was good for me and helped me heal quicker. My little girl is 3 weeks now, and I feel 100% better to take care of her even though I know my body isn't 100% healed. Obviously take it easy as much as you can, but you will be surprised as how well you heal....at least I really was.

Re: questions for c sections and bf mommies
I never woke my bbaby once. If he slept, no way was I waking him. Nearly from the beginning he slept 6 hr streches. I must admit during the day (probably for first two months) he was hungry every hour and a half to two hours. He was a long solid baby who grew into a tall solid boy. I nursed for 11 months.
My c-section was hard on me, but I survived. In the very beginning when I felt I needed more rest my dh would bring me the baby and sometimes returned him to the cradle.

Re: questions for c sections and bf mommies
my baby was so lazy and hated waking up to eat. So I became really engorged and had to pump every 3 hours anyway. I had a c-section with a painless recovery.

Re: questions for c sections and bf mommies
just trying to remember - I think I would feed at 10 or 11 pm once in the middle of the night (let's say 2 or 3) and then when he woke up at 5ish - so overnight it was more like 3-4 hours apart.
After 2 weeks you can do much more and by 4 weeks I felt good.

Re: questions for c sections and bf mommies
my baby is 3.5 weeks and I honestly recovered really quickly from the c-section - I was walking around, getting up, sitting up with really very little problems by the 2nd day and since we've been home I've gone for walks - went in to work for a few hours (just to finish up remaining things).
She eats just about every 3 hours - but a lot depends on how big the baby is too - bigger babies can sleep longer and eat more without falling asleep (she was 7.7 when she was born).
The 5am feeding she gets formula, so that I can sleep. . . and I'd say that one other feeding a day she gets formula - otherwise it's BF and pumping.
