What are the cerification guidelines with the video? Did NY do away with this?

Re: Certification Video
The certification video is a crock.
I have a friend that works in the certification office and she told me that they only choose a handful of the videos to view, and they pass the rest.
For the handful of videos they choose to "watch", they only play it to see that it meets the time requirements. My advice to you is, do the best you can with it but be sure to be within the specified amount of time. Let the video tape nonstop from start to finish. If they see a "break" in it anywhere, you will get an "F" on it.
Good luck!!!

Re: Certification Video
I'm laughing b/c everyone I know is doing it. I'm doing mine on Monday. But I posted a question about transferring to a VHS. How do I do that?

Re: Certification Video
Well just wondering if it was still a requirement...someone told me it was done away with and I don't have to do it...but I am confused.
As for transferring to VHS I think you can get that done at Target or somewhere like that

The state did away with the video for those people who received their certification AFTER 2004 because instead of provisional to permanent, the new title is professional certification. So if you were certified before 2004 and still have not done it, then you still have to do it within your 5 year time span.

Re: Certification Video
I heard the same thing about how only a handful are watched. I also heard that you will fail if you go over the 30 minute time limit.
I did mine in 03 (put it off for a loooonnng time!). My advice to anyone who has to do it:
1- if you have troublemakers, get them out and get some "ringers". I did mine the day after our 8th grade trip, so I had a lot of kids absent. There is a minimum number of kids, if I remember right. I taught 2 classes, so I pulled some kids from the other class and removed a few who I knew would be disruptive.
2- Don't set up a tripod and attempt to do it yourself. I paid someone from Lehman College who did this for a lot of teachers- it was over $100 but worth every penny. He had signs to hold up to remind me when to transition, and he did a great job of identifying the kids who were especially strong during the group work. It took a lot of stress off me. Not saying you have to pay someone, but if you have someone who knows what they're doing, use them!
3- Keep it simple. I had my kids write a paragraph in a small group- they had to form and defend an opinion. Very basic and required minimal preparation beforehand.
Hope this helps.

I have heard this as well. Someone I know was off by 1 minute and had to redo his....plus resend in the money I believe!
