varicocele repair

so we have known for years we have MF and DH has varicocele. We chose to go the IVF route and well....nothing so far. One of our last consults another RE suggested DH see a different urologist. I totally forgot about it and much to my surprise DH scheduled all the analyses and the consult.

Well she just called and started talking to me like she was my doctor, didnt even ask for DHChat Icon

Anyway she said his last analysis was worse than the one 2 months prior so she wants him to have another sono and then see him to discuss repair.

Honestly, this wasnt even ever something we considered and I know DH has always been against it. I guess he is thinking about it nowChat Icon

Its so weird how things happen.

So anyone whose DH has done it? Any advice? I know NOTHING about this.

Re: varicocele repair

I think MrsTC's DH had it...you have to wait six months afterwards to see a difference.

Re: varicocele repair

DH had the surgery in Jan. He had a HUGE varicocele and since DH only has one testicle, the doctor felt it best to remove it. He had a S/A done 3 months afterwards and everything but the morphology increased.

If you have any specific questions, please feel free to ask.

Thank you. I would love to hear what the procedure itself and the recovery were like.

Re: varicocele repair

I'm not much of a poster here, but I wanted to share our experience with you. I know what its like to be in your shoes. DH had a bilateral varicocele with very low counts and motility. He decided to have the surgery in May '06 since his urologist instilled alot of confidence that the chance for complications were almost none and the chance for success was good enough to give it a shot. He said we may even be able to get pregnant with IUI. So DH had his surgery on a Friday and was up and about over the weekend. There was definitely discomfort, but he never complained too much. He did stay home the following week and he was back to normal quickly...with some sensitivity of course, but that soon passed.

The next SA was in early September and showed a dramatic increase in his counts and motility to just about normal ranges. Eventhough IUI's still didn't help us, he says that it was worth the week or two of inconvenience to help eliminated some of our issues.

Good luck! And let me know if you have any other questions...I would be happy to help.
