Expecting Trouble That I'm Really Not Looking Forward To
DH's grandma passed away right before my wedding over the summer. Now, my MIL had ZERO compassion and was actually really, really mean to me as I went thru planning the wedding without my mom so needless to say, I didn't feel bad for MIL when her mother died. Now it's almost time for DH's grandma's unveiling and I don't think I can bring myself to go. It's not because of how I feel about MIL, because I genuinely loved DH's grandma...she was such a hoot! Going to the cemetary - the same one where my mom is - is just too hard and going to DH's grandma's unveiling is going to be like going thru everything I went thru with my mom all over again and I don't think I can bear it. I told DH that I don't think I'll be able to go and he totally understands but I expect MIL to give us a VERY hard time about me not going. She won't understand the normal answer of "it's too hard for me because...." So what do I say to avoid a big fight?

Have your DH handle it. Ignore her if she has something to say about it.

Completely agree! It sounds like she won't be understanding and compassionate about it anyway. As long as DH is okay with it that is all I would worry about

Don't go. You can't worry about her! As long as DH understands.
