Successful Classroom Management programs that have worked with difficult classes?
I've lucked out that the last 2 years I've had good kids. Talkative, but good kids. The class I'll have next year is a really rough group (both in the way of children and parents) and I wanted to read up on different classroom management programs that have worked with difficult classes.

a ticket system has worked wonders for my class. kids earn tickets and are responsible for their safekeeping. they can redeem them for different things during snack time. i can also earn (NOT take) them back for inappropriate behavior, not doing what they're supposed to, etc. they LOVE IT!
i call it the Good Day tickets and they're the ones you get on the big roll.

for 6th graders I use a "Star 2000" concept- as a class they earn points each day for good behavior/participation etc... and when they get to 2000 points they earn a prize of their choice...usually a breakfast...or "goodies" like brownies/cookies/ etc...depending on what period I have them- or a movie, or a game...or a recess- since 6th graders don't have recess...
It works well

I have a bean jar...they go in and they come out. Half way is a popcorn and movie party. All the way is an ice cream party. You can do it so it lasts the year or throw a lot in so the parties come sooner. I also have group points for weekly prizes. I also have a 'secret student' that I choose in the morning. I remind them of the secret student and they all straighten out.
Have you read Harry Wong's The First Days of School? That's a great book!

i do tickets for individual behavior and a mrable jar for the class and have had much success

I pick a student in the a.m. That student must behave all day to earn points for a table. So if they are misbehaving, I just say secret student because it could be you, you never know. If the student was great, he or she earns points for the table and the class claps. If the student wasn't good, I tell them that the SS wasn't good, didn't earn points, but I never say who it was. Also, sometimes I'll throw them off and make the whole class a secret student and then they earn beans for the jar.
