My birth story and pix in album
We've been home for about a week and a half, but it's been so hectic with visitors and taking care of Lily that I'm just able to post my birth story now.
On Tuesday, 6/5 I had my 38 week doctor appointment. I was 0 cm. dilated and 0% effaced. On Wednesday evening around 6pm I went to the bathroom and saw some blood. It was a very little amount, but I still called the doctor to let them know. My dr. wasn't on call so I spoke to the other one. He said it was probably from the internal I had the day before, but if I was worried to go to the hospital to get checked out. I decided to wait it out. A couple hours later I noticed that my underwear was a lot wetter than normal. I changed it and the new pair was wet pretty quickly. We decided to go to the hospital to see if I was leaking fluid.
Got there at about 9pm. A nurse checked my fluid level with the ph strip and part of it turned blue (amniotic fluid) and part didn't. She checked me and I was 1 cm and bloody. She called the dr. and they decided to admit me. I had to walk the halls for a while to help bring on labor. Looking back I should have waited to go b/c I was there for soooo long, but I was nervous about the fluid level. They got my labor and delivery room ready while dh and I were walking the halls, then at midnight we went into our room. The on-call dr. checked me at around 2am and I was still only 1 cm. We got some sleep (but not much) and the nurse kept checking me throughout the night. I was not making progress on my own, so they started Pitocin at 6am. At that point I was in no pain, but I knew I would ask for an epidural once the pain got bad.
At about 9am I started feeling some contractions so they gave me Demerol b/c I wasn't far along enough for an epidural yet. Throughout the morning and early afternoon the contractions got worse and I finally started dilating. I got the epidural at about noon. I asked for it right when the pain got bad, so overall I really wasn't in much pain at all.
We live in Florida and our parents were all flying down as we were in the hospital. Around 2pm my parents got there. My DH brought my mom in to say hi and then left to go get my dad. At 2:30 they came in and I told DH to get the nurse b/c I felt like I was fully dilated and had to push. She came in, checked me, and I was finally 10 cm! So after about 18 hours of being there, and our parents had made it on time, they called the dr. (still the one on-call, turns out mine was away). He got there around 3:00, I pushed for only 17 minutes and at 3:17pm on June 7, 2007 our beautiful baby girl was born!!

20 inches
