So what does it feel like to ovulate?

After six years I am finally off the pill so I'm kind of clueless as to what signs/symptoms I should be looking for. Thought you ladies could help me Chat Icon Chat Icon

The biggest thing to look for is your cervical mucous. Around O it should be stretchy and like egg white. You will usually have that fluid for 3-4 days and you should BD every night as long as DH's sperm count is normal. If low every other night. I also get the pain in my side but not everyone gets it from what I understand. It feels like a twinge low in the pelvis. Hope that helps

Melijane, gave a great description.

Your cervix will also be higher, open and soft.

It can feel like Af cramps, sometimes subtle, and sometimes very intense.

I often feel ping-like pains that are painful with each step when I walk.

Red,
I always find it hard to analyze how the cervix feels. I guess if I checked it often I would know the difference but that is the hardest one for me.
It is an absolute travesty that we did not learn this stuff in school. I guess because they don't want anyone using natural family planning? I feel like I learned 100 new things about my body when TTC.

Re: So what does it feel like to ovulate?

I don't think it's because they don't want us to use natural family planning as much as it's because most health practioners aren't even aware of all of this. (Scary part is that includes some ob/gyns) lol

Getting to "know" your cervix and the mucus it provides is so 'strange' at first. As women we are taught, to not really be interested in our bodies, ..(afterall, we don't fondle ourselves the way men do all the time lol).

We are socialized to sort of, avoid our bodies. Anyway....therefore, when I started ttc and learned that the cervix plays such a huge role. I was all confused, where it was, what it was how to reach it, what the fluid meant etc lol

Once again because we are not socialized to really speak like this, this is going to sound like tmi, however here goes....

If you sit on the toilet as if you are going to make a BM, you can reach in, and usually find your cervix. Early in your cycle, your cervix should be fairly easy to find. It probably will only take 'half the finger" (first knuckle) It will feel firm,...like the tip of your nose. As you approach O, the cervix will be harder to reach (more of your finger), it will feel softer, like your lip and you may feel the opening in the center. The mucus could also be more abundant when approaching O (a soft, wet feeling).

When I O'd this weekend, I had to lay down, that's how bad the pain gets for me. It feels like bad AF cramps on one side. And when I sit down or get up or take a walk, I feel a twingy pain.

What helps too, I know TMI, but use the same finger. I used to gauge how high it was by where i landed on my finger.

For instance if it was high, I knew my entire finger would be in there. Low meant past my first knuckle I would feel it.

Gross I know, but I had a hard time figuring it out too.
