Anyone have a rabbit and a dog?
DH rescued a rabbit a month into our marriage. I absolutely love an adore her as she really has a personality that shines bright.
We are interested in adopting a dog, and have had a few visitors to make sure "Puppy" (our rabbit) would still be comfortable.
So far, we've had a beagle come and visit - big mistake as they're hounds and she wanted to tear the door down to get to Puppy. Puppy stomped her foot, hid in the corner of her cage, and shook.
We had a 5 y/o Yorkshire Terrier come and visit - another mistake as terriers are hunters and barked at the rabbit. Puppy wasn't as frightened as she was with the hound, but still very timid and sat in the corner of her cage.
Now we officially know to stay away from "adult" dogs and "hounds."
Does anyone have both a rabbit and a dog? If so, what breed is your dog and how did you get the two to get along?

my friend had a rabbit and a dog. it was chocolate lab with a rabbit. didn't care at all about each other.

we have a rabbit & a dog. We've had Jack the dog for 5 years, he is a mixed breed-spaniel. We got the bunny last thanksgiving. My dog is really smart & we told him to take care of the bunny, she was a house rabbit all winter-now she lives in a hutch outside.
The dog likes to chaise the bunny, but wouldn't hurt her. the rabbit likes to play with the dog.

A bunny is about the only animal I would be afraid of getting. Misty is a hunting dog and I think she would terrorize a rabbit.
Good luck though, I'm sure most dogs can be taught not to chase a rabbit.

Well, maybe it could work if you start with a dog as a puppy.
We have bunnies in the area and my dog would love to get one for dinner. He got a baby squirrel once.  He's a dachshund. They are bred as badger hunters, i.e. to hunt and grab small animals. So, I would certainly not recommend a dachshund.

I had a rottie/pit mix of all dogs, and he got along with all animals. Used to let my bird ride around on his head all the time. This prob. does not help you at all, LOL. Just mentioning it because each dog is so different even within a breed.

My brother and sil have 2 pit bulls and they brought a rabbit into the house much later and both dogs are afraid of it....

I think as long as you got a puppy (maybe a poodle/shizstu/maltese) that you could socialize them to get along w/ the rabbit.

we have a bunny that was my bros' girlfriends but it lives with us now
The first night we brought home Rocky, we stupidly thought they would automatically get along and just put Rocky down to meet Bunny.
Anyway, Rocky thought he was a puppy and ran after him and they both started running EXTREMELY fast in circles and eventually the bunny ran into the lawn....It was late at night but we knew the bunny would come back but freaked and it took us ten minutes to find a 1 lb black dog in our backyard
Lesson to be learned- puppies are going to be hyper. try to have them meet as if the puppy was meeting a baby. extrememly slow and with soothing words....

now
well nowadays Rocky hates Bunny. Whenever we have to feed or clean the bunny's cage or go over just to pet it, Rocky goes crazy barking and eating his food to show us hes a good dog....Sometimes thats the only way we can get him to eat
Anyway, we never socialized them that much these last 2 years that know even as much as we try and work with Rocky, all he wants to do is chase Bunny and the bunny only wants to chill, therefore he doesnt like him back....
Extremely rare moment
so, if you're going to try to have them together as pets, please try continuously (daily) to try to get them to know each other

When I was little we had a black lab and a rabbit. The rabbit usually stayed in the hutch in the yard though.
