Early Intervention.....

to all the BTDT twin mommies, was one developing slower then the other that you ever needed to have an EI evulation??

I left the PED very upset today.
I noticed that Christopher has been moving his head back and forth (from era to sholuder movement) She wanted me to videotape it, and bring it in.
She was also concerned that he has cannot get to a sitting position from laying down, and he is not attempting to crawl (and may need PT) Also, that he is not babling (like dada, baba, whnere as Matthew is doing all of this and even pulling himself up on things.
Christopher is just cooing. His eye contact was NOT that great and that is what really bothered her.
Im really scared, but she also said it could just be a that they are twisn and one can be developing slower, and she gave me a # to call just to see if he may need some PT.
Anyone ever in the boat??
They are 9 months.

We haven't gotten that far as DDs are only 8 months now. I that nothing is wrong with Christopher. I'm sure that if you get him help from early intervention then if there is anything wrong they can diagnose it early on.

We had 4 EI evaluations for both of my boys. This past week we had an evaluation through the school district because they now qualify through CPSE (nursery level). Suffolk Boces was wonderful and I had a positive experience. Our evaluations were for speech, and I was dissapointed that they didn't qualify for EI because then maybe we wouldn't need it as bad now at 2 1/2! My boys left NICU with 8 weeks for PT for poor muscle development. I really feel it helped then.
I know it is hard to worry about your children that way, so I am sending you . I would call EI either way, best case senerio, they don't qualify, and even if they did, it will help them and more than likely eliminate the need for anything beyond the early intervention. Oh Diane

I hope DS is just a bit slow to come into his own and that the ped is just overreacting. All kids do things in their own time, well, that's easy for me to say... as a worry wart, I'd be worried too but I'm that it's nothing.

My friend is a EI teacher so if you need a referral or have any questions let me know, I can ask her.

I have alwasy been concerned about my boys developing at different rates, but my Dr says that is normal, no two kids are exactly alike. I hope that he is fine, but if it will ease your mind, I say get the evaluation.

let see..my girls are doing different things they are 16 months Reese is walking but does not talk she says mama and makes noises but thats about it. She is walking all over the place..i was thinking of having her evaluated for her speech. Sydney talks and mimics everything but does not walk she takes steps here and there but thats about it. Since my girls were preemies the state had a nurse come to my home Early Intervention..she came a couple of times and said everything looked good then she called me a month ago and asked to see the girls..I called her back to set up an appointment but she never called me back my DH erased the # and i have no idea who i need to contact..anyone have a #? I hope everything is ok Diane, The good thing is you are taking care of this at an early stage. It's hard to know if something isnt' right when it's your 1st time being a mom.

I pray that it is nothing, just that they are developing at different rates. I do notice that Kelly does things (crawling, pulling up, get into sitting position) that James doesn't yet.

I wouldn't worry until they say to worry. Easier said then done I know. Maybe if you video tape it & show your pediatrician they might be like. Oh that's totally normal. Not every child develops the same. It's really hard to do when there is another child in front of you constantly who seems to be developing faster.

As for the speech. My daughters are 20 months & don't say much. Mostly it's Mama. I'm not worried. Mainly because Patrick was 2 before he really started talking. I never got im evaluated. Thanks to a very calm sister who told me to wait. Proud to say that 3 years later he's a reader & very smart. Some kids take a while to find their voice.

I know DH didnt crawl, he went to walking, and never talked till he was 3.

Her biggest concern was the lack of eye contact

I agree with everyone else - mine developed at totally different rates.
My DD was doing everything before her brother, everything except talk.
Even now, they still don't say much, but understand everything.
Zachary took a long time to sit up from laying down.
Don't stress to much - it can't hurt to call EI - it might even alieviate your fears. We used to worry about Zachary with the eye contact thing. But as he got a little older he seems to be just fine.

I don't worry about the talking thing either, my oldest son took a really long time to talk - he had some words but not many. However when he turned 3 - he was coming out with full sentences. Now he just finished 3rd grade and was the smartest kid in his class.

I truly believe they develop at there own paces.

Good luck Diane. My boys are older then yours and they still do not go from the laying down to sitting up and my ped does not seemed worried at all yet. They just started being able to sit up on their own.

My sister is very involved in EI and it is a great program. They really can get kids on track so don't fret it.....they are here to help.

A friend of mine has 2.5 yr old twins, a boy and a girl. The girl is developing "normally" and the boy is not. The girl is talking up a blue streak and the boy does not say one word. She has occupational & physical therapy coming almost every day and an EI Teacher. I was wondering about how common this is? My friend had an IUI to conceive them.
