How to stop the yo-yo

I haven seriously been going up and down with my weight my whole life- and I have gotten better

I gained about 30 lbs my freshman year and I have been fighting to keep my weight under control ever since

I am short- like I have said before- so even 1 lb makes a difference

I know go up and down 5 to 7 lbs

I really want to stop this- and just keep at the weight I have decided is perfect for me

I think after a certain your age your metabolism just catches up with you and it's hard to stay the same. It must be genetic for those that do naturally.

I fluctuate with AF but other than that I weigh myself every day, which may be bad, but it helps me reign myself in when I see anything more than a 2-lb fluctuation. I gained after getting married because I stopped weighing myself...With weighing myself constantly I know I won't let that happen again.

For me, I have to keep my calorie intake the same everyday. Easier said then done, trust me, I know!! Chat Icon

ETA: like above poster, I too weigh myself everyday. It's okay for me because I'm not trying to lose that much weight. Instead, it keeps me on track to protect the pounds I have lost already.

Do your eating habits fluctuate as well?

Maybe it's about creating a meal plan for yourself that allows the treats and things that you indulge in which causes the yo yo effect?

You know-- lifestyle eating vs yo yo dieting?

Although, that's what I tried to do-- and now I have like NO metabolism! Chat Icon

yes- I go yo yo in my eating habits and working out habits

I know what I need to do and can't always do it

I do good - and look great

then I think I am naturally thin and eat

then the cycle starts over

this has been going on to 1 degree or another since HS

the problem is me- I know that- but how do I break this cycle (I know no one has the answer to that) Chat Icon Chat Icon

I really am sorta in the same boat.

For me-- while both my parents are pretty thin-- they both exercise regularly and have been for the last 20+ years. I need to exercise if I want to be thin. Plain and simple. I am afraid to post what I have lost since back on the exercise tip cause I want to make sure it's real weight-- it's not that much, but at least the scale is moving. If I keep losing at this rate, I will be good in 6 weeks or so. I am eating a little more strict-- but I am just working out.

Honestly-- it's a lifestyle and you need to stick to it-- when you fall off the wagon, you just have to get back on... Now, if I can just do the same. I am going to try this time. Really!

You just have to make the committment-- and not think-- ok, I am skinny now so I can pig out and not work out... wax on, wax off grasshopper!

I have the same problem and I am only 5ft tall. I am the fattest ever right now. It really depresses me yet I can't seem to get it under control right now.

I am laughing reading the first line because I think the same thing. When I hit my weight watchers goal, I thought why do I need to be with all these fat people and stopped going to meetings. Well, 10 pounds later... I'm the biggest yo yo dieter too. I hate it.

I actually had discpline this weekend- I wanted sugar and we have a candy machine in the building

but I ate sobert instead- I was pretty impressed with myself Chat Icon

Your body will always want to be as heavy as the heaviest you have ever been, if the weight was because of fat. You have gained more fat cells when you were heavier (fatter) and they are still present it your body, they just shrank, so your body wants to fill them up. This is my 'extra closet space' theory. If you have more space at home, you save more crap!!! If you have less space, you store less.

So now your body if constantly fluctuating. the key is to never get to the heavier weight. I know that it is easy to say now, but keep this in mind if you are ever at your heavy weight again- you can get heavier!

Just be consistant with your diet and exercise reguarly.

For me, yo-yoing came from a couple of things. I expected weight loss too quickly and when I did not see the results I wanted I would give up and just eat whatever, whenever. I also took one "mess-up" and let it last an eternity. If I ate badly one meal, I would just consider the day shot and continue to eat like crap.

What I have learned for myself through WW is that 1) I was and continue to be happy with ANY loss, big or small OR staying the same. I have been able to achieve and maintain my weight goal by looking at these things as success. I decided that patience was going to be the only thing to save me. I knew as long as I could be happy with any loss or staying the same that eventually I would reach my goal, and that I wouldn't give up. Also, if I slipped up once, I did not make it a forever event. I isolated the incident and went back to eating the right way.

I think it really was a change of mind set for me.

I yo-yo, but its a day to day yo yo...(I'm pg now but this is pretty much still the case), one day I eat bad, one day I eat good. If I eat good for 2-3 days, I feel slim and eat, and the cycle starts again as does yours...but I don't gain weight because the cycle never lasts for more that 2 days...meaning if I go off track a day, I'm right on track the next...KWIM? Maybe you can shorten your yo-yo cycle? Chat Icon

I seem to also go up and down 3-5 lbs, i sometimes think it is just water/salt weight gain.... Do you eat alot of salt??? Try watching your salt intake it might help.... If you firgure out anything else Please let me know....
