Invasive cosmetic surgery questions... Updated
When's the earliest you can lift anything again?
How long did it take you to heal?
My MIL just had a tummy reconstruction and breast implants. She had no belly button for 27 years after her 1st c-section and now she's got one. She got new boobs to match her new tummy.
I was very happy for her when she decided to do it, but I was not so thrilled she did it less than a month before we visit them for our summer vacation. I'm worried she won't be able to hold DD, or spend the day on the boat like we had planned, etc. She has always been in great shape and she assumed she'd be much better than she is by now. It's been 2 weeks and she can still hardly get out of bed.
Update 7/5/07: She had her 2 week checkup and everything is healing well. She can dress and shower herself now. She won't be able to pick up DD but she'll be able to hold her sitting down. She still tires very easily. The surgeon told her to start taking small walks so hopefully that'll help get her energy level back. We'll be there in 1.5 weeks. If she isn't better than she is now, I won't be able to have her babysit DD and we'll have to change our plans.

Re: Invasive cosmetic surgery questions...
that's a lot of surgery in one shot. I would think that she could hold DD sitting but wouldn't be able to lift her for a few more weeks.
She will feel much better around 8 weeks. I think she will still be able to do most things, jut not lift anything more than 10 lbs. I had ab surgery in Feb and I was able to lift at 6 weeks but I was able to go out to dinner and do some minor errands at 1.5 weeks.

Re: Invasive cosmetic surgery questions...
ack. She can't even dress herself yet!
I know this is really selfish but I really wish she would've waited until after our visit to do this. She's going to be an emotional wreck if she can't pick up DD. We live 1200 miles away and this will be her 3rd time seeing DD since she was born.
Here's hoping she gets better really fast!!

Re: Invasive cosmetic surgery questions...
10 days after my surgery I held my neighbors baby on my lap for a while. She will be able to do that. You'll see. It will give her incentive to get better.

Re: Invasive cosmetic surgery questions...
I had a breast reduction and I wasn't allowed to lift anything for 3 months. Until about 4 weeks, my mobility was limited. I was so scared of bumping into something or the incisions not healing properly. The most uncomfortable thing for me was sleeping on my back for 4 months.
