Right ovary pain

I am well past the time of ovulation and was uncomfortbale yesterday in the right ovary area. It was feeling a little weird last night and when I touched the area - it hurt. It's not a constant pain and about 10 minutes later I was fine and nothing since.

Anyone ever experience this before when they're not ovulating?

I've had the same pain on my left side on and off for the past few days.

You know I am with you. I thought it went away, but it was there again last night. When I touch the area, it's hard too. Chat Icon

I've have this happen a lot...one time it was so bad I fainted on the toilet!Chat Icon

I thought I had to go to the bathroom maybe...when I went to the Dr. they did tests and told me that every month you produce a cyst...the body flushes it out with your AF. They think mine had erupted...that was why I had THAT much pain.

But it can just be good old gas...

I wouldn't worry though.

Thanks, I was thinking it might be either of the two.

I have "heard" in the past that we do produce many cysts but don't even know it and they rupture on their own and they are so small, but sometimes they are a lot bigger and more painful.

Exactly. I would have never known if this didn't happen.

When I went to the Dr. they did a sonogram and saw nothing...then they told me this I was like what!?Chat Icon

A similar thing happened to me, I was in high school and I collapsed on the bathroom floor it hurt so much and I called my mother to come home and she came home and instead of helping me up she yelled at me and said "Are you pregnant, I'll never forgive you if you are". I was like "doctor...please...". Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Right ovary pain

When you ovulate, the leftover 'shell' from the follicule is the corpus luteum. That stays in your ovary, and turns into a cyst. :)

That cyst is what causes your temperature to rise post ovulation. It, supplies the progesterone to the uterus. Progesterone is the cause of the thermal shift.

If pregnancy occurs, the corpus luteum 'cyst' remains in the ovary for the first trimester, until the placenta takes over the progesterone supply.

When there is no pregnancy, the corpus luteum, "cysts" dissolves. However, if it gets filled up with blood or fluid, it can cause pain during your 2ww. If it ruptures, severe pain and bleeding can occur.

Yikes, and ouch is all I can say. I hope it just...goes away! Actually no, I hope it stays! Thanks for the explanation! It makes sense now.

Re: Right ovary pain

Thanks so much ladies for all the information!! You guys are really the best. I am on my way in a little while to my GYN since it has now shifted and also in my left side and painful. But the pain is not constant. If it is the cyst - I'm curious to know why I'm feeling this on both sides and also why it seems to shift

Re: Right ovary pain

Well, he did an internal sono - says everything looks perfect and no cysts anywhere. When he pressed his hands on the areas that are hurting though - I almost flew off the table! He is only speculating that maybe there is some aggrevated tissue on each side of my c-section scars that might be reacting and he agrees that both sides is something weird. Since everything looked great on the sono, he is going to wait a few days to see if it is constant and still there before sending me for invasive testing.

But bottom line you are o.k. Chat Icon

Did he give you anything for the pain?

Maybe a heating pad may help? Advil?
