Is anyone not having a baby shower?
I really don't want one, for several reasons. It is not in my culture to have them- We really don't keep stuff for the baby, until the baby comes (or the days leading up to it).
I also think its so much. We are going to have a party when the baby comes, so everyone can meet him or her. And, after getting married, with SO MANY PARTIES and gifts (which is such a burden on people coming), I just don't feel like I need a party to celebrate the upcoming birth of my child, and then another party to celebrate the birth of my child. JMO.

Re: Is anyone not having a baby shower?
I will not be having a baby shower - I don't want one, its really a personal decision.
I know our family and friends will purchase gifts for the baby and the baby will have everything it needs without me having a baby shower.
I also feel its a burden to people to have the extra expense and its also really expensive for the person throwing one for me since we are such a huge family. I think there are people that tend to give gifts just because you invite them to a party - then after - you never hear from them again...lol Its terrible - but in my case my house is always open to my family and friends before and after the baby is born and whomever wants to give us a gift is welcome too.
All in all its a totally personal decision and its one I chose, even though i enjoy going to other baby showers - i just don't want one for myself.

Re: Is anyone not having a baby shower?
I never really wanted one....I got thrown a small one by my best friend (who is often insitent on things like that) when I went to NY to visit.
Then my SIL threw my a diaper shower at our church since we don't have too many friends down here.
I was quite happy with posisbly not having a shower...I hate being the center of attention and I knew that we'd end up with whatever the baby needed at some point.

Re: Is anyone not having a baby shower?
I am not having one either. My Italian superstiutous family doesn't believe in showering the baby with gifts until it's born and my DH is jewish, and his culture believes the same thing.
I am still going to register, just in case people refuse to agree with our feelings so I can still get things I want/need. We plan on having a jack/jill baby bbq, since the baby is due the beginning of May, a few weeks after the baby is born then people can bring gifts if they want.
We don't even believe in bringing anything into the house until the baby is born.

I'm with you. I'm Jewish and I believe the same thing. After my sister had her baby, I realized you have to have a few things, ((bassinett, first clothes, stroller, carseat, etc...) just for bringing the baby home, but thats about it.

Exactly, that's all I plan on getting before the baby is born and it won't even be in the house until the little one is here safe and sound. We are going to practice taking the carseat in and out of the car though way before the baby is born. My mom didn't even have my crib delivered yet when I was born!! I was in a bassinet, then the crib came about 2 months later.

Re: Is anyone not having a baby shower?
I did not have a shower since we are jewish and like what has been said, our culture does not have them. we had a Bris so we received gifts a week later.
what we did was buy the essentials-infant carseat, snap n go, bouncy seat, toiletries needed when baby came home,
We painted and carpeted the baby's room but had furniture delivered after baby was born. Although I wished I had the changing table...
