Sorry to intrude....sister needs desperate help with 1yr old twins....

Hi everyone..My nephews are 1 yr. old and just don't sleep at night. One in particular doesn't like to nap during the day now also. They will fall asleep around 8:30 but wake up in the wee hours screaming and crying so hard they throw up. She has NO idea what to do at this point besides cry herself....

Any help would be very much appreciated! TIA!

Has she read Healthy Sleep Habits?

Has she spoke to her Dr about this?

We put our boys in for naps and even if they don't sleep, they need to stay in thier cribs it is a rest time then.

Is one waking the other up, maybe she should seperate them?

I am not sure if she has read it but I will ask. They are in the same room but their cribs are on the opposite side of the room, I think they could possibly be waking each other up. Thanks for your suggestions!

The book is great.

Does she think that they might be having terrible teething right now? Is this sleep pattern completely out of the ordinary for the babies? If so, I would give Tylenol to the one who seems most distraught (to ease pain) and speak to the doctor. I know my doctor told me that even really good sleepers sometimes change b/c of separation anxiety and teething right around this age (9-12 months).

I hope she gets rest soonChat Icon

Thanks ladies. They have never been good sleepers at night really but it's gotten so much worse and I think my sister is ready to jump off a bridge...They are getting teeth but it doesn't seem like they are teething as bad as they were a few months ago (no red cheeks, fever, drooling, etc.) Now she is panicked with the vomiting.

I told her I think it could be separation anxiety but they don't cry when she leaves them with the babysitter or when she leaves the room or anything Chat Icon

(they were 7 weeks early if that makes any difference?)

ETA: I just spoke to her and she said the doctor is abslutely NO help to her.

Re: Sorry to intrude....sister needs desperate help with 1yr old twins....

my girls were born early too.

Do you they use pacifiers?

What time are they eating their last meal? Do they get a bottle before bed?

You said they are throwing up maybe if she goes in gives a pacifier or rubbs the twin that is up back. I wouldn't suggest taking him out of the crib because he will continue to scream in the middle of the night.

Maybe something she is feeding him is upsetting his stomach..maybe she should try giving him something bland for dinner.

if the doc is no help she should find a new Ped..

Good luck and FM if you need additional advice.

I don't think that their prematurity matters (my boys were 6 weeks early, too). I would try classical music or something to soothe them a little. And I def. agree that if her DR isn't any help, maybe she needs to go to one that respects her concerns.
