Mom's who had preclampsia.....

with your first pregnancy, did you develop it again with your second?

We are TTC, and hopefully this is my month, but I just have so many worries this time around. My BP was fine my whole pregnancy with Julia, but I had an emergency c-section 2 weeks early because I got preclampsia at 38 weeks.

For those who had it.......

Did your Doctor put you on a strict diet your seond pregnancy? and did you go in for checkup's more frequently? and did you end up getting it again?

TIA!

Lillykat, no disrespect but that is the biggest bunch of crap I ever heard. *** does the father of the baby have to do with getting PE? I'm sorry but your doctor is misinformed.

Everyone should check out www.preeclampsia.org - it is the official website for the foundation. There is so little known about this condition, but this group is making great strides to find out more!!!

i developed PIH at 32 weeks, which developed into PE, c-section at 36 weeks. since then i have read up on it a lot. having PE really affected me. thousands of women are still dying every year from this condition AND OR losing their babies. it is 2007 and this should not be happening. I had NO IDEA how serious this condition really was until it happened to me.

it's not true that its a disease of ONLY first pregnancies. it is supposedly unlikely, but it IS possible to develop it again. from the articles i read on the foundation website, the percentage of likelihood of recurrence depends on the time in your first pregnancy that it developed... like, if it was late to develop your chances of getting it again are lower than someone who developed it at say, 26 weeks, or very early in pregnancy.

they also say that PE is a possible glimpse into the future of the mother's health. basically pregnancy is a 'test run' for your body under stress. it is related to the heart, so it MAY mean that we, as victims of PE, are more prone to cardiovascular disease in the longterm future. read the studies. read the articles.

two other women in my office also had PE, and ALL of us developed long-term thyroid problems PP. I'm convinced its too much of a coincidence and there has to be a link. i haven't found much info on it though.

Honestly, I'd meet with your OB and a high-risk doctor if you have concerns. It is not something to take lightly, or anything that can be prevented with diet.

HTH.

Re: Mom's who had preclampsia.....

I had PIH with my 1st pregnancy and was starting toi show the sign of Preclampsia during my 35-36 week . My BP the day I delivered DD was 144/111. She was delivered at 36 weeks when I was induced.

This past Pregnancy I was carrying twins and Did not have blood pressure issues untill I went to the EndO Dr for my GD at 32 weeks and my BP was 160/100 he did not seem to think that there was any concern Chat Icon So having a brain and knowing what I went through with my dd I dug out my Bp machine (that I had I to use with my 1st everyday) and I was getting numbers that were WAAAYYYY above normal. I called Dr and she got me in to see Dr. When I went to his office and 4 nurses took my BP Chat Icon and finally the Dr came in and sadi to me I was either going on Bed rest or Going to the Hospital ... Well the 2nd it was. I was in the hospital for 4 days on strict bed rest and started to have a terrible headache and my High Risk Dr said that the best thing for me to have the babies ...they were born 32w6d and stayed in the NICU for over 3 weeks. I was lucky that I listened to myself and was able to get my shots as soon as I did

Just listen to your body ...

I didn't but was told there was a good chance. I had GD the second time around and they worried I would wind up with PE again but luckily didn't

Re: Mom's who had preclampsia.....

I was told the whole as long as it is the same father your chances of getting it a second time is lower....but i dont know. my dr said the next time around i will be watched very very carefully. I had some other issues and the pree was the straw that broke the camels back!
