learning how to knit

my friend is teaching me how to knit and so far, i can cast on decently, but i end up missing some loops when i try to transfer - should i try a thicker yarn? i bought the baby thread, 5 0z.

yeah, maybe try a thicker yarn. You can see the results better that way too.
