Calling All Scale-aholics
For those who weigh themselves every morning-- or frequently enough.. Do you find you gain a pound or two during the 5 to 7 days that you have your period-- Or do you find that your weight loss is stagnated?
A nutritionist several years ago told me not to weigh myself when I was PMSing or when I had my period... but honestly, I am not sure how much it affects my weight.
Was just wondering what everyone else's experience is.

Re: Calling All Scale-aholics
I've been weighing myself every morning. The first month during that time the scale went up 1 or 2 pounds and then right back to my normal weight. Last month it did not change at all. I actually lost weight at the end of that same week.
I have read on a few sites online that it is normal for your weight to fluctuate a few pounds around that time of month.

Re: Calling All Scale-aholics
I have been logging my food for 12 days now. I weigh myself in the morning same time everyday. Up until 2 days ago my weight was either going down or staying the same. I've been consistant with my calories and sodium. Two days ago (1 week before my period shoudl start) my weight spikes 1 pounds. Next day I lose 1 1/2 lbs. Today I gain one. This morning I woke up unsure of whether I wanted to cry or kill someone. Clearly I am PMSing. I am having major chocolate cravings so I decided to skip 2 snacks and have a bag of M&M's instead to calm the PMS beast inside.

Re: Calling All Scale-aholics
It can be nerve wrecking because you see the scale go up and get disappointed but the numbers really don't mean anything.
Don't beat yourself up. The first month I was totally depressed thinking I had really gained a few pounds and then it just disappeared. It will do the same for you.
I read somewhere that your body retains more fluid during that time of month and that is why the scale moves. It is not actually additional weight as in fat it is just fluid. So it vanishes afterwards when you body lets it go.
I will say the second month when the scale did not change I was drinking plenty of water. So I think my body did no retain as much water because it was intaking so much water at the time.

Re: Calling All Scale-aholics
I usually gain 1-1.5 lbs before and then lose it once it starts.

Re: Calling All Scale-aholics
I was wondering because I had anticipated my weight loss speeding up since changing my diet to fix my metabolism-- which was like a week and a half ago. I got my period full-fledged yesterday and was hoping to see the scale move more... But I guess a better gauge would be to see where I am like a week from now.
I know it's healthy to lose 1 to 2 pounds a week-- but I would love a little 3 pounder action!

Re: Calling All Scale-aholics
Rand- i read the most interesting article once which followed a girl one full day and weighed her in the AM and then again about 7 more times throughout the day. She started at 122.5 and the highest she got thru the day was 127 (that was after dinner)
So.... i did the same thing once and you know what...the SAME thing!! I moved 4-5 lbs throughout the SAME DAY!!!!
Its SOOOOO annoying
edited: wow i just realized i didnt even answer what you were asking.... Yes i TOTALLY *** 2-3lbs during period

this is why I weigh myself in the morning, AFTER I pee-- so I am the lightest I could possibly be.

Re: Calling All Scale-aholics
You know what's weird? I gain a pound or two maybe 4-5 days before AF, but the day before I get AF, I always lose a pound or two. Very strange.
