Petfinder.com adoptions
I've been searching on petfinder and I noticed that a lot of these shelters have very in-depth, lengthy application processes. It seems like they get a zillion applicants for each animal. Anyone have experience with Petfinder.com? Has anyone been turned away? What are the chances of actually getting a dog you apply for?
Thanks, Jenn

Jenn, rescue organizations have quite extensive background checks but I believe that shelters are a little more lenient. Several girls on here have gotten pets from petfinder, I am sure they can tell you more. Good luck!

Re: Petfinder.com adoptions
Shanti is right. Shelters are more lenient. They look for a quicker overturn of animals, whereas the private orgs are more intent on finding a proper forever home, and some even want a home with certain kinds of experience (ie, rescue dog or abused dog experience). The rescue orgs are usually no-kill, whereas the municipal shelters are not
It is possible to get turned down from a rescue org, but it is usually more of a competition thing (if someone else gets their application in and approved first).
Rescuing is a wonderful gift to give your future pet. It is so very worth the time and effort
