How do you feel when someone tells you

that you're EXACTLY like "so-and so"... where "so-and so" passed a long time ago and you've never met?

I guess this is a spinoff of the charity thread... I hear allllll the time how I'm so much like my mom's mother- she was 37 when she died, and my mom was only 17. I can't help but feel SO SAD for missing out on meeting her...

Yes! My family tells me that I remind them of my Aunt,my dad's sister, when she was my age. Unfortunatly, my dad and his sister have been estranged for many years and I have never met her

That would make me so very sad too, because I would LOVE to "know" the person that everyone feels you are so much alike

In my case, I've heard my entire life that I am SO much like my Grandmother (Mom's Mom)... but I was fortunate enough to grow up with her and really "know" her, so that is a bit different. I personally never saw the similarities BUT now that she is very sick and old and can hardly even remember who I am (Alzheimers ), even though I spent a LOT of time with her, I WISH I would have cherished that time more ..


SO yes, I thiink its a very NICE thing to hear but also a shame that we cannot know those i our families who we remind everyone else of

I agree with Felicia, it is very nice to hear- but it makes me sad, but also honored.

I get that all the time about me and my dad. My dad passed away 9 years ago this month. I was 21. He never saw me become an adult, graduate from college and law school. He never met my DH or my BIL. He isn't here to see his grandkid and his grandkid-to-be.

But I also feel honored. He was a special man and people held him in such high regard. To know that some of him is in me, it makes me happy.

I know thats confusing- sad and happy- but that's how it makes me feel.

My DH reminds me so much of my Grandfather that he's never met. He actually died on DH's birthday so I feel they have a connection. I don't really know how he feels when we say that...I'm sure he wishes he would have met him, they would have gotten along so well

It is strange, but I think it gives you a connection to someone else in your family. I think usually when people tell you that, it is meant as a compliment and they are remembering the great things about that person. My mom died before most of her grandchildren were born. My niece reminds me so much of her and sometimes I tell her that (she's only 6) because it makes me happy to see those qualities passed on to her. I think she also likes to hear it, because she never got to meet her grandma and she likes hearing stories about her.

my family usually tells me that I am very much like my cousin Barbara...who died on her 20th birthday in a car accident.

I never knew her...but apparenlty we were alot alike.

It doesn't bother me....but sometimes it is a litte creepy the way certain family members stare at me.

everybody says i look and act like my mom, which makes me happy but reminds me of how much i miss her and wish i would have had the chance to know her as an adult - she passed when i was 10

i hear i am very much like my father sister(my aunt) we have so much in common and i tell ya i feel more closer to her than i do to my other aunt in NJ who is my god mother.
