Teacher Cert
Hi! I'm looking to become certified to teach and I'm going through the indivudual evaluation route. Does anybody know if American Sign Language fulfills the language requirement? thanks!

Just looked it up on the higher ed website and it says you need a Language other than English (including American Sign Language)... lol for some reason the wording sounds weird and is confusing me.. does that mean a "language other than English and ASL" or that ASL is included in that requirement? I know I sound stupid, it must be this heat

YES ASL fills the language requirement.
My district started teaching ASL about 3 years ago. I think it will be on the increase in the next few years. The ASL teachers are very hard to come by.

Yep it does!! That is the language I took to fullfill the requirement. Now that I have been offered a job in a school with many ELL's, I wish I would have taken Spanish!
