Elective Teachers
I think there are a few of us floating around.
As mentioned I am going from a math environment, where the goal is passing a state test to a business enviornment.
Any advice for a new "elective" class teacher?
Anything that you find works/doesn't work?
By the way, if you are an elective teacher, what elective and grade level?

Re: Elective Teachers
i teach HS art...
i teach different kinds of electives... some are required for graduation, others are purely electives... the difference is the kids wanting to be there and the ones that don't...

Re: Elective Teachers
do you think there is a lot of kids who take your courses (not required) and don't care/don't want to be there

Re: Elective Teachers
Not an elective teacher here, but a hs guidance counselor - unfortunately, I find that there are many students in given elective courses that don't necessarily want to be there - but are there - many because that elec. class was what was open or offered during their open period, or they didn't have enough courses and needed to fill in another one.

yup!!! the challenge is turning your classroom into an environment where they start to actually enjoy being there... for some of them, this creeps up on them... and it is so rewarding at the end of the year when they say "im actually going to miss this class"
