Got a phone call today
So I got an interesting phone call today.
Anyway it was the other business teacher at my new school. She was introducing herself and seeing if I wanted to get together next week to go over some stuff.
So while we were talking I found something interesting.
I almost lost the job because of my references. Supposively she has been asking for a few weeks who the new teacher would be so she could get in contact, and they said they weren't sure yet. Turns out they were ready to move on to the next candidate because they couldn't reach my references!! helloooo..it is the middle of summer, I don't have any of my administrators HOME phone numbers!!
Anyway I'm so glad I came through because I almost lost the job.
So I find out I will be teaching
1 period Business Law
1 period Accounting
3 periods Business Ownership
I get my own classroom, which is rare. For the most part core subjects rotate. And I will be running the school store, which is attached to my room and gets me a small stipend. But I get to run the store with my Business Ownership classes. So it should be a fun project.

Yea, so not to blab anymore..but I almost didn't get this job!!!

Wow! That was a close call - unfortunately, that's the way it goes sometimes in the summer - even though schools should no better - sometimes they get impatient and would rather move on to someone else.
Some of my references have been nice enough to give me cell numbers and tell me I can put those down so they can be reached in the summer. I've also always let my references know when I thought phone calls were coming to give a heads up!

Wow that is crazy about the references.
Very cool that you know your schedule and have your own room. The school store thing will be fun too!!!!!

that's really cool that she reached out to you. can you split some of the prep work - 3 preps is a lot! I had 3 last year and I have 3 again this year.

3 preps a lot??
we usually have on average 5+... one year i had 7! I would be SO happy to have 3!

whoa! 5 would probably kill me! what do you teach? I'm middle school and we only teach 5 periods a day, so you really can't have more than 5. How do you get 7?

I teach art... so by our subjects nature we have to teach a few preps, otherwise there wouldnt be many different choices for the kids... we also only have 5 periods, but sometimes they will put two courses into one period like Fashion and Advanced Fashion...
