nyc job

Hello,

I just got a job in Queens, District 26!! I will the the special ed teacher in a 4th grade CTT. I am so excited, but have a lot of questions.

The principal is writing a nomination letter. Is that a formality or am I definitely in?

How is PD? Is it at another school, when is it?

Do you get paid more for AIS afterschool?

What else should I know? I only had one interview last Monday and she called today.

I can't believe it!

Re: nyc job

first of all, congrats!

now-- ive never heard of a nomination letter, it must be a formality.

i teach 4th, so if you have any questions, please ask!

pd is usually in yoru ownbuilding, but we do get sent out for some things. usually to a local MS.

afterschool is considered "per session" and is paid at around $50 an hour.in my school its pretty hard to get because senior teacher have "retention righs" and never let go!

you can also go to workshops on sat and some afternoons that are paid at "training rate" which is around $20 per hour. these are actually helpful and you get free stuff. they are usually posted on the DOE website.

good luck!

Re: nyc job

Thanks everyone for the good wishes. I was really feeling hopeless. I had a not good experience in LI as a perm sub. (worked hard, given 2/5 job and more, not paid for extra classes and told june 14th to look for a job)

I am excited about this great school in a good area. I am also very nervous especially about meeting my co-teacher.

Please keep the answers coming and any other advice. Thanks so much!

kgs- Thanks for the answers!

Just so you know...

You are VERY lucky to have found a job in District 26, it's like the Long Island District of Queens. Good for you! What school?

I teach in District 30..am a fellow Long Islander and cannot find an elem ed job on Long Island. It's NUTS! I've been trying for 7 long years. Some say now I am too over qualified. Maybe one or two years for you in the city and you will find a LI job.

Congrats!

I hope I am not being naive, but I don't want a LI job at this time. The two districts I've been in have treated untenured staff horribly. Most are leaves and then they can let you go for no reason. ALso I interviewd for a LI year leave and there was an interview every ten minutes. I got to demo round and am waiting to hear, but I don't think I would accept it.

Keri- are you special ed becuase I have not got one elementary call all special ed. Thanks for your help.
