Need to know ....
Sorry to post this here but I'm not sure where else exists for me to do this.
I was to be a grandfather in 4 months time but due to abnormal fetal development my daughter in law is facing a termination of her pregancy at 5 months.
I wish to know what happens to the 'baby' at this stage.
That is: on day one she will be taking some medication that I understand stops the plascenta from "continuing" ???? And on day 3 she reports to the doctor for 'delivery' ????
Anyone here care to enlighten me or at least point me to the right forum? And, no, I'm not out to interfer nor pass judgement ~ I wish to understand what actually happens for my own understanding.

This is just heartbreaking, and I am terribly sorry for your loss and the loss that your son and daughter in law are suffering.
I don't know the answers about what the medication does to the baby, other than ceasing life.
As far as delivery, I believe that your daughter in law will be induced into labor and will have to deliver the baby in the usual way - unless arrangements have been made with her doctor for a c-section.
One of my best friends went through a similarly heartbreaking circumstance. Her baby died in utero at 5 months gestation and she delivered the baby in the usual way, too. It was so difficult, but it did also bring her closure for the pregnancy...at least as much as could be expected. And then she was able to begin the mourning and recovery process.
Again, I am terribly sorry for your family's loss. I wish you comfort during this time and will pray for your son and daughter in law.

Thanks for all the heart felt replies ~ greatly treasured at this time.
In one reply it is suggested that the medication taken two days before delivery actually terminates the life within, thereby ensuring that the delivery is of an expired body. I thought this might be the case but wish to confirm this.
