The transition between NYCBOE & Long Island

Just to summarize- I taught self contained Special Ed in the city for the past 3 years. Each year I've always had pretty tough classes, I loved them and managed them really well- but I felt like I was starting to burn out a little bit. I know that sounds wierd- but to be honest my heart's with special ed and I wanted to stick with it- so I needed a change.

I was very lucky and landed a job in nassau. Last week I went to my new school to start setting up the room. There's a copy & laminating machine in the building Chat Icon , and...

no BULLETIN BOARDS Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon and I got my new plan book and I can fit my lessons in BOXES!!! I feel like little orphan annie when she goes to Daddy Warbuck's house for the first time.

Re: The transition between NYCBOE & Long Island

isnt' it the best feeling!!!??? you're going to love it... it's such a refreshing change.... you will find that you will be in a place where you are valued as a professional and even though LI doesn't have all the stupid policies of the BOE, they learn more and you're
not burned out! YAY!

OOH! That sounds great! I'm just starting a new job in LI after teaching 6 years in NYC. I haven't even been inside my school building yet (the interview was in another building in the district) but at the interview they told me that every room has 2 TVs - one for a DVD player, and one that can project the internet for the class to see. I almost fainted with excitement. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

At my school in NYC the dept. had so few TVs, you'd have to reserve one a week in advance and submit your lesson plan for the day to make sure you really "needed" it and weren't just slacking and showing a movie that day. Hello! I'm a Spanish teacher. I'd like the kids to see and hear people speaking Spanish. Anyway, then you'd have to wheel the TV on a cart through the halls - which are filled 150% past capacity, so how you can do it and not bump into a kid who will then turn around and, thinking another kid bumped into him, try to take a swing at you, was an art form. If your room was on a different floor from your dept., you had to wheel the TV onto the elevator, which only worked half the time. Chat Icon And at this new school in LI, every room already has a TV set up? And internet too? It's like a dream! I can't wait to see what else I get! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
