Need you opinion on a familiy member who is..

someone who is not to be trusted, who acts as if they are the good guy but they really are very manipulative, controlling and VERY opinionated. A recent situation really got me P O'd! I am over it but I just know I can't trust her...same time she is family so.. I have to deal with her.

My thing has always been to continue being nice and sweet, you know as they say "Kill them with kindness?" Lately though I really feel like telling her off. I don't want to cause any strife in the fam though so perhaps I will remain cool..

How do you all deal with these "types" of family members?

I don't associate with them outside family functions...and when i'm around them...I'm as plastic as a barbie doll.

It sounds like you're describing my in laws to a T!
In all seriousness, when I am around them I do not talk too much, it's a lot easier that way. And if you knew me, I never shut up!

My younger brother is just like this. I have just written him out of my life. If we have to see each other (which I will avoid at all extremes), I simply say Hello and Goodbye ... nothing more ... nothing less.

I dont go out of my way to be around her. We dont talk and we arent friends-even family functions I try to stay away from her. I would just try and stay away

I feel like I could've written your post!! I have one of these!

In the beginning, this particular person made me feel uncomfortable when I was around DH's family. I am an outgoing, talkative person. But, when this person was around I ended up withdrawing from conversations and feeling really awkard. I spoke with DH about it and he said to just "blow it off." I also have to be sensitive to this person because then my MIL gets p!ssed if I cop an attitude.

So, recently I have been having the "I don't give a s!hit about your attitude" attitude. If this person wants to be a Bitc* about everything, then that is her problem. I am happy in my life and I am not going to let this person get in the way of my relationship with DH's family. I am confident that I didn't do anything wrong, so I don't have anything to apologize for.

I had a problem with my sister-in-law but I never said anything because she is the only family my husband has in this country. Finally I couldn't take her any more and as nice and calm as I could tried to confront her about certain things. To this day two years later we have not spoken and my son has not seen her children. My husband and I don't even mention her name. Try to think of different outcomes - this is not what I would have wanted, but at least she has stopped and I don't have to deal with her at all.
