Orientation & Clothing
What is everyone wearing for orientation?
Or for those, passed that stage, what did you wear?
I keep looking at my closet and I have no clue what to wear!!!

Re: Orientation & Clothing
I definitely remember that I wore a suit both days. The second day I wish I had packed something to change into because I was dying setting up my room in that suit!

I was thinking I should probably wear a suit, however the only one I have is a maternity suit. Should I wear that one? I don't know if I really want to go out and buy a suit for orientation?
WHat do you think?

Re: Orientation & Clothing
Honestly, I would definitely try and wear a suit the first day. I would much rather be overdressed than underdressed, especially since there are a lot of administrators at orientation.
I would try the maternity suit. I swear everything today looks maternity-ish to me anyway!

Re: Orientation & Clothing
I am having the opposite problem! When I left in June, I could still get away with bigger regular clothes. Now with 10 weeks to go, I need dressier maternity clothes, and I really don't want to spend the $$. I think I'm going to be rotating the same 4-5 outfits.

I really think it depends on your district.
No one in my district wears a suit for New Teacher Orientation. I think a nice pair of pants or skirt would be great. Not to mention it is hot during orientation. JMO

Re: Orientation & Clothing
I do not think a suit is necessary. Last year I wore a nice skirt and blouse. This year I wore the same. Just wear something you would typically wear to work. No jeans, flip flops, tees, etc.

Re: Orientation & Clothing
For our Orientation/ meetings the 1st 2 days of school, in my distrct/building (Upstate) we are verrrrry casual....most teachers wear capris, sandals, and tees/tanks
After the meetings, in the PM, we finish setting up our rooms and get filthy

Re: Orientation & Clothing
I just finished 2 days of orientation at a LI school district. The men all wore shirts and ties, most with khakis. No suits. The women wore casual, swingy skirts or capris with blouses. I think all the women were in comfy closed-toe shoes or sandals. Not one ladies' suit in sight.
Have fun at orientation and good luck!

Re: Orientation & Clothing
I just finished orientation today.....(it was 2 days!) and honestly, people wore anything and everything....the guys wore collared shirts (polos or casual button downs with khakis) and the girls ranged. I wore a skirt with a button down shirt yesterday and today a shirt with a scoop neck-ish shirt, most people went business casual-ish ....but some girls did wear jeans and jean skirts....I don't think my assistant superintendent loved that idea

Re: Orientation & Clothing
Ours were very casual. I would def NOT wear a suit... or at least bring a change of clothes.
I wore a skirt and sleeveless shirt the first day and they told us to dress down the rest of the week.

Re: Orientation & Clothing
before we started school they told us to dress casual and comfortable until the kids started. So the first day i wore capris, with a cute tank and matching short sleeve sweater and sandals.

Re: Orientation & Clothing
Mine is tomorrow at a beach club and then on thursday at the admin building. Tomorrow should I wear dress pants, a skirt or dress capris? I am really making a big deal over this for nothing.

I have to agree. It definitely depends, but nobody in my school wears a suit except the admin.
We keep it neat and professional, but comfortable.

and that's exactly why my district recommends it for untenured teachers. the supt always looks .
again, every district is different - but in my district if you showed up not in a suit, it would be noticed! I would rather be overdressed than underdressed.

I think that is your district and your superintendent. I think most districts around LI are not like that.
I think that the norm is looks nice and dress how you would for a day of work.

Re: Orientation & Clothing
I had my orientation today. I had on dress pants, short sleeve dress shirt and low heels. I was more dressed up than the superintendent-he had on khaki's and a polo shirt.
