Back from Disney...a few notes
We went to Disney from Aug 21-28. We were really excited to go since we went there on our HM. We stayed at the Grand Floridian which is also the place we stayed for our HM.
We chose this week to go because many kids in the south go back to school and therefore it is less crowded. It was much less crowded then the middle of August BUT there were also many drawbacks to this time of the year as well.
1. Many of the rides were being refurbished such as Haunted Mansion (Magic King), Spaceship Earth (EPCOT)
2. Also 1900 Park Fare was being redone do they moved services to the Grand Floridian Cafe. This $ucked for us because we loved the GF Cafe and now it was only character meals.
3.. This is the time when they are
training new people which meant slow service at the hotel (but not at the parks)
We also noticed the monorail system was not that great this time. It literally took us 1/2 hour-40min to get to Epcot yesterday.
We were stuck on Pirates of the Caribbean for 30 minutes because the ride malfunctioned. Picture 30 or so of those little boats smacked up against each other for 1/2 hour.
Don't get me wrong I love Disney and so does my DH but I didn't find it to be as great this time around.
**ETA...IF you want to eat at any of the restaurants (table service) Make reservations ASAP! Many of the restaurants were booked solid and it wasn't even that crowded. If you any intention of eating at Le Cellier in Canada book way in advance!

I am sorry your Disney experience was not the best this time! Hopefully it doesn't leave a lasting impression! Now where are the pictures

I've gone a couple of times off season and had the same experience, different things were closed...
DH and I also got stuck on the Pirates of the Caribbean when we went 2 years ago... I will never go on that ride again because I couldn't get that song out of my head!

We were there right before you. I was sad about the Haunted Mansion but I knew before we went it was closed.

Sorry you didn't have a great experience. We go in 2 weeks and the Haunted Mansion opens back up the day before we arrive. But we get to deal with Love Bugs... I guess there is a trade off for everything

OMG ! We went last year at the peak of Love Bug season and it was disgusting! They actually had to close the bar by the pool because they were so bad - the worse they had seen ever!
We are going next week - I am hoping by some miracle it is not as bad this year.

We were there the week before you (but you knew that already!  ). A week makes a big difference. The only frustrating thing to us was that Haunted Mansion and the Epcot ride were being refurbished. Otherwise, the service was excellent.

We went the first week in October - so I am hoping this time by going a couple of weeks earlier maybe we will bypass the worst of it. They don't bite, but they are so annoying and gross!

We were there last year from 9/15-9/23 and there were swarms of them. I know they dont bite but they freaked me out. I couldn't even sit by the pool. They are attracted to white so the bus stop railings and pool area seemed to have more. They go into hiding or something in the evening.

That sux that you had those problems. I went in the end of June and the Mansion was being fixed then too. I think it has been out of order for a while... I was so sad about that.

Ok, we're going on 9/20 for a week...what are these Love Bugs? Now I'm freaked out. We were just talking about how buggy it was the last time we were there (but that was spring).

Love bugs are fly type bug that fly around mating... hence the name.
They are harmless but supposedly there can be SWARMS of them. Slow flying. Ive heard they can fly into your mouth. They like heat and white.
Do a search on google for them and you will see a picture.
They are active in May and September... usually.
