Re: Home made stuffing

This is my mother's recipe with some changes. I make this for Thanksgiving.

I never measure. I just do it to taste.

2 loaves stuffing bread (moisten and grate)
2 eggs
Milk
Bread Crumbs(seasoned)
Garlic Powder and Salt
Thyme
Oregano
Basil
Pepper
Melted Butter
Onion

You want a consistency that is not too loose, so you may need to add more bread crumbs as you go. Mix and stuff in turkey. If you are using a chicken, use only one loaf of bread and one egg.
If you have extra, you can put it in a separate casserole, baste with butter, add a little water on the bottom and bake. Yummy! Chat Icon

Re: Home made stuffing

I make a great corn bread/chestnut stuffing for Thanksgiving every year. I don't usually go by a recipe, b/c I very rarely cook that way. I do "a little bit of this" " a little bit of that" I may have posted something last year, I'll see if I can find it.

Re: Home made stuffing

I made this stuffing last Thanksgiving, with vegetable broth instead of chicken broth. It was VERY good. I can't imagine I used an entire cup of margarine, though...

my recipe is similar, except I don't use bread crumbs, and I use a good white sourdough bread from the bakery. I also use savory and poultry seasoning instead of oregano and basil. Oh, and I use a combination of cream and chicken stock, and fried chopped celery along with the fried onion.....guess it's pretty different, come to think of it Chat Icon
