Test Prep

This year, test prep is huge in my school. I teach reading, 3-5. Any websites, or ideas where I can get good lessons.

Re: Test Prep

Use NYSED. Get previous tests. We use some test prep books, but we also really try to incorporate the skills of the ELA test into our Reading Workshop.
(You can use the item maps on NYSED for MC to create mini lessons.)

Re: Test Prep

Also, google "COACH NEW YORK STATE" they make the test prep books. i forget their website but found it that way..... last year i went on the site and got ALL their prep. books. some of them have nice stories, etc. and i used those for test prep. they sent them to me for FREE as a sample, hoping i would order for my class. I just photocopy what i want to use.

my district also provides the prep. book for social studies test (I teach 5th) which is helpful.

honestly, test prep. is such a waste of time in my opinion. are we teaching them to learn how to take a test or how to learn and enriching curriculum? honestly, if you are following your grade level curriculum and do just some practice tests, i think they will be fine. i always try to do test prep. within the curriculum. (using what you're aready teaching them, reading, etc.) when we are reading or doing a math probelm, etc. i mention it's importance and that it might be on the test and teach them a specific skill, but in my opinion, you can't become a slave to the tests... you just go crazy other wise.
