What is yoru circle time routine?

What do you discuss....What do you review? Songs? Exercise?

We do a morning message where I leave out letters or make mistakes and the kids have to fix it. Then we read the poem/song for the week and find rhyming words or words we know. Then I usually do a read aloud and a mini lesson, usually on writing or I go over our centers for the week. On Mondays we will also have sharing time. We usually have our meeting from 9:45-10:15ish. In the afternoon we will go back to the floor and do the calendar, count how many days of school, weather etc. as a start to our daily math lesson.

I have not done K since our pre-balanced literacy days, but I think some of the core stuff is the same:

*daily letter, with focus on a skill
*read aloud
*interactive writing on a skill
*calendar
*sight words
*number line
*schedule
*days of week/months


I also used Dr. Jean a lot. She is fun.

I teach preschool not K..but this is what my morning circle time consisted of..

Morning greeting
Calendar
Discussion of the holiday coming up in correlation to the project we would be doing.
Songs
Letter of the week
Numbers
Sharing stories

Then we would get up and exercise/dance so they wouldnt get restless.

Sit back down and read a story aloud.

In the beginning of the year, I tend to keep it short and sweet. By the end of the year, its my kids' favorite part of the day and I can get them to sit there willingly for at least 20 minutes!

weather chart
what should we wear chart (goes along with the weather chart....ie...so if its sunny and hot out we should wear...)
we do our job chart
then we sing our nursery rhyme of the week.
read a book which goes along with the rhyme...ie, this week is Mary had a little lamb...so books with lambs, etc.

i teach a self contained k-2 HI class. so there is ton of emphasis on vocab and language.

Counting
Weather song and chart
Seasons
Talk about any holidays coming up.
Letters and their sounds (drill).
