I hate my calves!!!!!
I just bought my first pair of UGGS, and I had to get the lace up ones
Not one pair with a zipper would go over my calves 
W T F????
I just lost 25 pounds! Ok, I still have 20 more to lose, but still!!! GEEZ!!!
I'm so glad I tried them on!!!
Oh, and I'm an 8-8.5 in regular shoes and I bought an 8

 I've always had big calves, no matter what size the rest of me is. So I feel your pain. I have the short Uggs, and now I just got the messenger ones and they fit me. But most of the tall ones won't go over my calves. It's very frustrating.
