If you get a BFP....
Is it better to not take prenatal vitamins until you visit the Dr. or take otc prenatal vitamins?

I took prenatal vitamins for months before I got pregnant.
There is no harm taking them if you are not pregnant.

if you did get a bfp, you should def tell your friend. When you are ready of course.

I took Target Prenatals while TTC and I actually went back to them after getting my BFP. My doctor gave me a bunch of samples of prenatals and they all upset my stomach so much.

Same here!! I started taking CVS prenatals a few months before TTC #1. Once I got my BFP, my OB wrote me a prescription. I never stopped taking them, although I don't take them as regularly as I should anymore

according to my doctor, it is very important to start taking them before you get pregnant
there are certain vitamins in minerals that MUST be in your body WHEN you get pregnant to avoid birth defects

You can call your doctor to ask his/her opinion based on your medical history. With my first I was instructed to just take OTC multi vitamins before my BFP, on the second was put on prescription prenatals before conception -- probably because I was still nursing.

My doctor told me it was not necessary until I got pregnant. SHe said a multivit with folic acid is enough.
