Anyone want to adopt a dog? UPDATE

My neighbors are looking to put their dog up for adoption. They have an 8 and a 10 year old and just had a new baby boy. Plus, they work a lot. So, they aren't home a lot and the don't feel it is fair for the dog. He is a 9 month old, pure bred (with papers) yellow lab. He is house broken and is a very good dog! My dog plays with him and they get along great. So, he would be great alone or in a house with another animal. FM me if interested.

Edited for Update: I was able to adopt the puppy out to my friend's cousin. She has 2 children ages 10 and 12 and they love Blaze! Thank you all for your interest in helping this puppy find a new family!

Re: Anyone want to adopt a dog?

It is nice of you to post this so this comment doesn't apply to you....

Why on Earth would they get a dog just a few mths ago, when they clearly could not take care of one with a small baby in the house or a baby on the way even still, on top of "working" a lot?

Here we go again with the people who treat loving pets like objects with no feelings. This shite drives me insane.

Nothing against you, mind you. It is very nice of you to offer to help out.

Did they get him from a breeder? If so, the breeder will probably take him back and find him a new home. If not, have them contact the long island Labrador rescue. I'm sure they will be able to place him in a home fast.

Oh, if they had decided this 4 months ago!! DH has been dying for me to "OK" a second dog to help keep our dog company during the long work day. Now that we're expecting a baby this winter, DH realizes it was a better choice to not get a 2nd dog. Hmmmm, though....now you've got me thinking....
Is your neighbor's dog used to a fenced-in yard? How much exercise is he used to? Is he good with kids? Is he housetrained? Is he able to hold it all day while his owners are at work or does he have someone let him out during the middle of the day?

I TOTALLY AGREE!!! Although my neighbors are great people, this is very frustrating for DH and I. One of the reasons why they feel they are unable to handle the dog is because they never properly gave him attention. Then, he is very hyper when they let him out of his crate. I go and pick him up all the time and have him play with my 10 month old puppy in my yard. They love each other! DH and I are very sad about the whole situation, but we'd rather help then have them give him to some random person. I don't think they thought the whole "lets get a puppy" thing through. It is very sad.Chat Icon

Thank you for understanding my comments! People like that frustrate me soo much. It would kill me if it was my neighbor, my doggie's friend. You are a good person to try to help find the dog a home. I only HOPE they do the right thing now, finding it a good home. Hopefully you can influence them in even the littlest way about the RIGHT thing to do now...not just dump the dog off to anyone or anywhere.

Good luck and I will ask around too.

ITA - why the heck would they get a dog and then put it up for adoption so soon? That is so irresponsible!

It is really nice of you to help out though.
