flying during 1st trimester
Did anyone fly in their first trimester?
I have to go to a wedding in a couple of weeks & I already have my plane tickets ---(I'll be pregnant about 6.5 weeks fetal age --around 8.5 gestational age) and my OB told me he doesn't recommend it.
UGH! I have read things online that say it is pretty safe--I am just curious if my OB is just super cautious.
Thanks

Re: flying during 1st trimester
Well, I don't know that I'd go against doctor's advice since he/she knows your personal situation best but I was not put on any travel restriction until late in my third trimester (32 weeks). I actually hopped on a plane the day I got my BFP (~4.5 weeks), I had been on a plane about a week or so before that (~3 weeks) and again at about 7 weeks. I'm 20 weeks tomorrow and everything's fine for me.
ETA: I would maybe speak with your doctor about his concerns - ask why, maybe it'll help your decision.

Re: flying during 1st trimester
i think it depends on your doctor and your condition for them to make that call. However, I have never heard of not being able to fly in your frist tri, just 37+ weeks. With my first pregnancy I flew in my first and second trimester.

Re: flying during 1st trimester
I flew when I was about 4 weeks (I didn't know I was preggo yet). I don't think there is anything wrong with it but if you are concerned check with your doctor.

Re: flying during 1st trimester
I flew at least 3 times during my first trimester. I've never heard of it being advised against.

Re: flying during 1st trimester
I was considering flying and the pregnancy books seemed to say it was safe. I did not go on the trip, though, because I had bad morning sickness and I have a tendency toward motion sickness. It seemed like it was going to be a very uncomfortable trip, but I don't think it would have been dangerous (except maybe for the poor soul who sat next to me on the plane).

Re: flying during 1st trimester
My doctor said if I was having an uneventful pregnancy it was ok for me to fly. I flew when I was around 13 weeks and again this past week at 23 weeks. I would speak to your doctor and ask them why he/she doesn't think you should fly.

Re: flying during 1st trimester
My doc said I could travel in the first two trimesters. I traveled a couple of times the first trimester on business.

Re: flying during 1st trimester
I fly almost once a week for work, both ways of course. My doctor said it was safe even before they saw me at my first visit.

Re: flying during 1st trimester
I flew to Las Vegas at 6 weeks and to LA at 10 weeks. No problems.
I think the concern is if you happen to need medical attention while you are away - especially if you are high risk...

Re: flying during 1st trimester
I flew at 12 weeks and i will fly again at 29 weeks. My doctor told me i am fine to travel up until my 35th week.... I would ask why they dont want you to fly. I dont think that there is anything unsafe but maybe if you are having bad MS he doesn't recommend it?

Re: flying during 1st trimester
Thank you for all the responses--- I made an appointment with another doctor to get another opinion. I didn't really like this doctor anyway and I really disliked his office staff. When I called to talk to him he didn't even call me back--his receptionist did and she couldn't answer my questions. How frustrating!
Thanks again

Re: flying during 1st trimester
my doctor said it was fine for me to fly cross country when i was 8 weeks, but to walk around frequently. i must say, i was pretty miserable on the flight due to morning sickness, etc.
