Question for Special Education teachers
This may apply more for middle school and high school teachers but I am looking for some feedback.
How do you distribute IEP information to the mainstream teachers? Just curious how other schools work this. We are trying to improve our system.

On superintendent conference day (first day back in September) all special ed. teachers are given copies of the IEPS of the kids on their case load. we are also given about 10 extra copies. it is the responsibility of the general ed. teachers and the special teachers (Art, music, etc.) to meet with us briefly during the day to sign saying they spoke with us and saw the IEP. I give each of those teachers a copy of the IEP. it is their responsibility ot file it away. i use that time to mention anything they REALLY need to know (i.e. i dont' tell the art teacher joey's reading goals, but i will tell her if he has major fine motor issues) as well as answer any of their questions.
for the general ed. teacher i work with, i actually sit down and talk at length about what they need to do to accommodate the child and give them a list of all their testing and program mods. because i push-in with their kids, we talk all the time.
the IEP seceretary prints out and collates all the IEPs for us before school starts so are not the ones responsible for getting all the IEPs printed.
My district uses a program called IEP Direct. We use this to input goals and objectives and do progress reports. any special educator can access the IEPs for the building. (i.e. speech therapist sees all, OT sees all, etc.) Works out well.....

I am a middle high school teacher. Sped teachers in our school have IEP direct. What would happen previously is we would have about 10 -20 students that we were responsible for getting copies of IEPS to their teachers. Now the school district has a program (I think it is called edushare - I am not sure b/c I don't use it but I will ask my coteacher later when I speak to her and edit it later) and they have electronic access to all the kids in their class that have IEP's and 504 plans. It saves trees too! They need to sign a paper at the beginning of school that says they read through all the students IEP's. Our sped chair laces it into the gened teachers on the first day of school every year!

Within the first week of school the psychologist, principal and all special teachers (pe, music etc) all meet with the special education teachers for distribution of IEP's at this time we go over important info such as medication alerts etc and then everyone signs off. This is for an elementary school but it is a good method so everyone is on the same page. The meeting takes about 30 minutes.

This is a great idea! I have also heard of another district that does a similar system. I like it a lot and I am going to relay the information to my director. Thanks!
We use IEP direct also! I love it! It makes our job so much easier when writing IEPs and etc. As a special educator I can access all the IEPs in the building as well.

My district is looking into Eduline and another program. Hopefully it will be in place by next Sept! I would be thrilled if the teachers could access the IEPs on the computer. That is great!

We do all our IEP's Electronically and every teacher has a password to log on and look at them if they need too.
They are only printed out at IEP meetings, re evals, addendums, and change of placements.

How many spec ed students do you have in your school?
I think there are about 150+ IEP's in the system.
Generally, the first or second week of school each special ed teacher will reach out to the general ed teachers regarding their students. We get a quick summary - i.e. who gets what mods - and then we are responsible for logging into the system and getting the details.

My district uses eschool and if a student has an IEP, any teacher with that student on his/her roster can link up to IEP direct through eschool. I like that it's all electronic and we don't have to print out IEP's for the just under 300 sped kids we have in the building (I'm the school psych).
