poll on when to tell....

i was all prepared to start telling friends and family if we heard the heartbeat today. I'm 8w3d...our friends doctor told her once you hear the heartbeat it is pretty much okay. When i asked my doc today she said to always wait until 12. Just wondering what anyone else heard???

Re: poll on when to tell....

I couldn't wait either!!!! I got my BFP at 6:14 AM and called people!!!!! Chat Icon You do what you feel comfortable with! My cousin said it the best 'you tell the people now that you would feel comfortable telling if something went wrong'. You have to figure that if god forbid something goes wrong, you'll need a support group!!!

Re: poll on when to tell....

I am 4 weeks. The only people who know is DH and all you wonderful ladies.

We plan on telling his dad after the first doc appointment. He really wants to tell his dad and knows exactly how he wants to tell him. We're going to tell his mom on Thanksgiving with a phone call(I'll be 12 weeks) and my parents when they come down the week after thanksgiving. I'll be 13 at that time.

Re: poll on when to tell....

I think it's a personal decision. We got a BFP at 4 weeks and were planning on waiting until our 1st dr's appt to tell everyone...we couldn't wait and ended up telling our families less than a week after our BFP.

Tell whenever you want to. If you want to and you are okay with them knowing if something goes wrong, then tell. We didn't tell anyone last time and it was hard telling people after the MC when we needed support. Now, we're preggo again and too nervous to tell. We aren't sure when we will. Its a very personal decision.

Heard?? I don't recall my MD saying anything to me about waiting to tell or not waiting to tell. DH & I made a personal decision together about when to share. A select few found out early, but most people found out after 13 weeks.

Re: poll on when to tell....

We told DH's parents a week after we knew. My parents will find out on Sunday as soon as they return from their LONG trip! I can't wait!! Then we are telling our siblings.

DH wants to tell close friends too after that, but I want to wait until 12 weeks.....it's a bit of a touchy subject right now.

It really is a personal decision.

I told my mom a couple of days after my bfp. We told the rest of the family after we had our first sonogram at about 9wks. I was sooo excited I couldn't hold in any longer. I told work at 12wks.

Re: poll on when to tell....

We told immediate family at 6 and 7 weeks after we saw a heartbeat via ultrasound. We told friends and extended family at 10 weeks after our second sonogram.

I am think I am going to tell work today. I'm almost 12 weeks and just can't hold it in any longer.

Re: poll on when to tell....

We had always planned on waiting til 12 weeks. But the excitement of the BFP totally took over and we told literally EVERYONE in our personal life the first weekend! (At 4 weeks) As for work, I told my close, close friends right away, but am just starting this week to make it public knowledge (I'm 12 weeks today). I agree with everyone else, this is a very personal decision. Do what you feel comfortable with.

Re: poll on when to tell....

I think it is a personal decision as well. For me and DH, we told our parents and family as soon as we got a BFP. Most friends knew at that time too. Our thinking was, if something were to happen, those are the people we would lean on for support anyway, so why shouldn't they know. However, like another poster said, it is truly a personal decision.

Re: poll on when to tell....

Everyone is different. We told our parents early on. Maybe at 6-7 weeks. But I waited until the 13 week mark to tell anyone else.
