Pain in my back - right side -
At 5am this morning I was woken up by pain in my back so bad that it went around my right side and down my right leg.
It feels like I pulled something or gas or a combination of the 2. I had mexican last night so (TMI) maybe its gas? BUt I have never felt gas like this. Its still hurting me and it painful to walk - not REALLY painful - but it hurts. It hurts when I sit too - it hurts all the time.
What do you think it is?

Re: Pain in my back - right side -
it could be the baby pressing on a nerve. Hope it feels better soon!

Re: Pain in my back - right side -
From what you described Kathy, that sounds like it could be sciatica (sp?) The sciatic nerve that is.
OK i'm prob. describing this all wrong.. but it is a pinched nerve of sorts.. it def. makes it painful to walk and can go from your back, into your hip through the butt and down the leg ... usually only on one side!
My mom has it, and she really does suffer when it acts up!
I have heard its fairly common in pregnancy, so I'm sure its nothing to worry about.. (unfortunately I do not think there is many ways to find relief either )
Feel better!

I was thinking the same. Mine flares up every now and then. It always shoots down my leg into my calf.

I think Flee is right. I had sciatica, not because of pregnancy, and this is what it felt like. It's very common during pregnancy. One of your disks (most likely at L4/L5) basically pinches a nerve - the sciatic nerve - and this causes pain all the way down your leg and into your back. Try alternating warm heat and cold compresses on your back -- the cold dulls the pain and brings down the swelling of the nerve, and the heat relaxes the muscles. Once the nerve coming out of your spinal column is feeling better, your leg and back pain will ease. I used to use a bag of peas as a cold compress....
Feel better MrsJ!

Oh boy siatica at almost 13 weeks? I hope its not going to stay like this. I have an appointment on Monday with my OBGYN so I will ask her what she thinks it is.
Thanks for all the responses!

My back pain started mildly at 13 or so weeks unfortunately and now at 24 weeks I've seen stars on some days the pain is so bad - but that's not to say that your situation is/will be the same - i hope not! lol
I just try to take it easy and not overdo any activities or stay on my feet too long. Standing up could aggravate the pain and sitting down for too long can also - so sometimes I think you can't win, its hard to deal with!
Unfortunately when I asked my OBGYN, there really wasn't anything they could do but send you to therapy. They suggested to use a hot compress and lay down/relax when the pain pinches - but mostly just take it easy.
Hope you feel better

Yep...definitely sounds like sciatica to me. I had it so bad this morning for around 2 hours, I could barely walk...I had to hold on to stuff to manuever around...it was pretty bad.

Re: Pain in my back - right side -
I agree. I had it when I was PG and as silly as this sounds I found it helpful to get on all fours. I dont know if it was in my head or not, but I thought I could get the baby to move off the nerve. It seemed to work.
Good luck and feel better.

Re: Pain in my back - right side -
I also has sciatica...down my right leg. I had gone for a prenatal massage and that helped. As soon as you deliver and drop the weight, the pain goes away.
