slow cooker potroast?
Every recipe I find calls for cream of mushroom soup...I detest mushrooms...
What can I use as a substitute?
OR
Does anyone have a recipe that doesn't use cream of mushroom?

You can just use Tomato Juice or V8. I use a bottle of beer or some wine.

Re: slow cooker potroast?
I use a can of low sodium beef broth, 2 whole cloves of garlic, a pinch of fresh oregano, pinch of fresh basil, a pinch of fresh parsley, carrots, celery, baby red potatoes, and onion. Put it on with meat onto of veggies and cook on med for 5-6hrs

Re: slow cooker potroast?
I just made one, and it was awesome...I used one packet of lipton onion soup mix-3 cups of water-and then carrotts and onions-I didn't make potatoes because I like potroast with egg noodles-but the recipe said you could add potatoes and celery. So, I floured, salted and peppered the roast and then seared it...and put it in the crockpot on top of cup up carrots and a cut up onion...sprinkled the onion soup mix on top, and then added the 3 cups of water...and set it on low for 9 hours....it was sooooo YUMMY!!!!

Onion soup mix and a cup of water. If its for the gravy, you can just make gravy the old fashioned way with flour and water.

Re: slow cooker potroast?
i made one last week... i did the roast with a bag of baby carrots, one onion cut up, and a couple potatoes chunked up... put in a cup of water and a cup of beef broth and a little garlic... thats it also good because its just DH and i, and it makes enough for two meals, so later that week i just put the leftovers in a pan in the oven for about 10 minutes to heat it back up. it comes out almost as good as the first day

Re: slow cooker potroast?
What type of beef roast due you use for your pot roast? I really want to make one to get some use out of my crock pot but I am not sure which cut to use. Thanks!

FYI-- I HATE mushrooms also, but I love my mom's pot roast and mac and cheese- both of which have cream of mushroom soup in it. I never knew it was in it until I started making them myself.
