Having more kids?

Anyone thinking about having more kids after your twins? Not that I am anywhere near making that decision, but I always wanted three kids and would like to try in a few years for another one MAYBE.

So the other day at work we are talking about how I might want another kids years from now and my boss goes good luck with that, my neighbor has two sets of identical twins that are 4 years apart. This is the 5th person who has mentioned knowing someone who has two sets of twins. Plus if any of you get Twins Magazine and see those pictures in the back that subscibers send in there is usually two pictures on average per magazine with two sets.

Since they have no real understanding of why certain twins happen makes me kind of nervous.

They are plenty of people who only have 1 set of twins. And then singletons. I would be a little nervous but, would go for it anyway. (If I didn't already have Patrick that isChat Icon 3 is a good number for us)

DH and I bring up this subject many times, because we have 6 frozen embryos left, but as of now we are done.

We would love to have more kids. After the girls were born, we set a "date" when we'd like to start trying again. Then decided we couldn't predict that far into the future of how life would be with the girls, so for now it's a definite, but for when, that's questionable. Chat Icon

I also can't imagine running after toddler twins while being 9 months preggo.

From BTDT moms of twins I've spoken to, it seems as if they ideally planned for a bigger gap btwn their twins and the next child... sometimes that worked and other times... well... Mother Nature had other plansChat Icon Chat Icon

One poster on the boards has a friend who had a set of twins last fall and just had a singleton. I think they are 11 or 12 months apartChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon If I was her I would be hesitant for DH to even sit next to meChat Icon

Re: Having more kids?

I definitely would like more but not right now. I'm enjoying this stage too much with my boys and I don't want to rush into another pregnancy. DH and I are thinking a couple years down the road as a more ideal time.Chat Icon

Re: Having more kids?

Well, we decided to start trying last December and, well, Aidan was born last month! I have 3 under 3 and life is full!!! They are all perfect and I feel so blessed. I wouldn't be telling the truth if I said it was easy.... I feel like the boys are at an age(3 in Nov) where they really require most of my time and it is hard to do that with a newborn who does as well. Either way, no regrets! Just wanted to give an honest answer in hopes that it could help some of you who are thinking about it!

Re: Having more kids?

I think 4 is a good age. I really am having the best time watching them play and interact. I would not want to miss that. & there is always the chance of having another set of twins.

My pediatrician reminded me of this. He has 2 sets of twin girls. I think your chances increase with age too.

I read that if you have natural fraternal you are five times more as likely. DH is absolutely convinced we will have twins again. I would love to have another set but I couldn't bear the thought of another high risk pregnancy, being on bed rest, and missing time with DDs.

We are 99% sure we are done.

I like the one on one defense also, I feel like we would be outnumbered with 3. I also only wanted two children, and I worry about what another pregnancy would do to my body, my stomach was ripped apart by this pregnancy.

After going away with the 2 boys this week I can not imagine going back to a baby stage again and not being able to do everything we just did, as well as traveling with 3 kids, 2 was hard enough.

Re: Having more kids?

we can't wait to have more. DH wanted to start when the girls were around 6 months, I was definitely not ready. It stinks because I have to go around teaching calendar. Perhaps next summer we will start thinking about have another, but it is too crazy to think about it yet.

Re: Having more kids?

I go back and forth. Like Diane - I would live to have a girl. I always wanted that special mother-daughter relationship. BUT we all know there are no guarantees and I could very well end up with a second set of twin boys! My DH is quite a bit older than me and not a lot of help so I think it would be quite overwhelming. My logical mind says we are done, but I'm not ready to say never... Yet!

Re: Having more kids?

I would do it again, but DH thinks I'm crazy...he feels we were blessed with a healthy son and daughter...why risk it being that I am 37 and would want to wait until the twins were at least 3. I already miss the infant stage and get all mushy thinking about another baby. As a mother of twins, I feel like I missed out on the one on one bonding that I couldn't take advantage of being alone with two babies at the same time. I feel that my children are very independent and that is a wonderful thing, but I feel as if I jipped them and myself sometimes by not trying harder to have some alone time with each of them.
