D&C Question.....
Anyone who has suffered a m/c and had a D&C, did your dr. have your fetus sent out to see what was rong with the baby??

I know with my early loss they did and my 1st lose I had an autopsy done. I think its for the best to have it done. They tell if there were any issue sthat may need to be addressed, though often then find nothing, with is frustrating as well.

My doctor sent out the fetus after my D&C last December. It came back showing our little boy had Down's Syndrome, which was what caused his heart to stop beating. It actually helped knowing that I didn't "overdo" it, and there was nothing I could have done to prevent it. After the report came back, I learned that DH was feeling guilty also, and it helped him resolve some issues too.

My 1st- the autopsy showed significant infection, which led to my labor so preterm.
The 2nd , the M/C the tests came back normal

Sharon Im sos orry. This is so scary because if it does come back with something like that it scares me to death that when I do it again what will happen.
A fiend of mine had the testing done before they transferred the eggs back, and it turned out that only 3 out of the 10 were good. The rest came back with downs syndrome.
It coast her a lot of $$ to do.

TO answer your question, after my D&C I did ask that the fetus be tested for chromosonal abnormalities. I was close to 13 weeks so I really wanted and 'needed' to know if there was something wrong or not .. just for peace of mind and also to see if there was "something" that either DH or I was carrying that might have caused me to miscarry at that point
In fact, in my case I found out I was carrying a  and that she had Turners Syndrome.. but that still did not necessarily explained why the baby's heart stopped beating at 12 weeks or so. Turners is not automatically fatal, and in certain cases girls can go onto lead a good quality of life. but in other cases, the syndrome causes a lot of problems with the girl so I have to assume if I had carried to term, my baby might have been very sick...
What reassured me a bit is that my doctor told me that this syndroms is NOT caused by anything Dh and I was carrying.. it is just truly a "fluke" .. and the chances of us conceiving and another baby having this same syndrome are rare to none.
I felt better in the end knowning what was wrong with her..as hard as it was to hear
IN any case, my doctor has recommended that I will need genetic counseling and DH and I will need chromosonal testing before we TTC again in a few months.. I rather know everything I Need to know BEFORE we TTC again rather than take the chance of getting PG again and losing another pregnancy

I have the same fears. With my last IVF cycle, we were planning on having the embros tested, (called PGD). It was cancelled at the last minute since I only had 4 fertilized eggs and my RE didn't want to risk me not having any embryos left to transfer. It was consitng $5000, but DH and I felt it was worth it for a healthy baby. We will probably be doing another cycle in Dec/Jan. I'm scared to death that I'll have the same outcome, but feel like some chance of a healthy baby is better than nothing. But next time, my hopes won't be up that high.

I had a D&C at 10 weeks......and asked the Dr. to be sure to send the fetus to the lab for testing. He says everything was perfectly normal.

I think mine was at about 6 !/2 Weeks later. I did not have a D & C though. I had a natural M/C.

I just got my first AF, post D&C, today
It will be 8 weeks on Wed since the D&C procedure.. so 7 1/2 weeks or so
I was told by my OBGYN that 6-8 weeks is about average

Diane, it took me 3 and a half looooong months to get AF again. WHich is long because my cycles are generally 24 days -- and I was in a rush to start trying again! Even that fist period was not full-blown, just some soptting and then nothing. AF decided to return with a vengence in the middle of Denali National Park in Alaska in the end of July - 4 months and 5 days after my D&C.... I thought I had escaped her!!
