We have a cat so we can leave her with extra food and she'll be fine for two nights (if the timing is right). For longer trips my sister will either come over to visit or Bob (the cat) will go to my sister's while we are away.

I ask a friend to stay at our apt to watch the cats when its longer than an overnight. I hope i never have to board them, it would freak them out.

Re: What do you do with pet(s) when

We have a timed feeder, so we can leave our cat for 24 hours or more, depending on the time.
We're going away on a cruise for a week, and we still need to find someone to stay with her on at least stop in and fill the feeder.
We hate leaving her though, it kills me every time we do it. I'm always afraid she'll shun us, but so far she has come running and purring to greet us.

I think I'm going to have a hard time finding a sitter for our dog Meiko for Thanksgiving. It's only Thursday and Friday that we need a sitter for but I'm afraid we might have to board her... she'll probably FREAK out about that.

Has anyone done this? Any info on prices or recommendations of good places?

OR better yet...

I met a dog sitter in Bellmore -- she seemed great, takes the dog to her house or goes to yours. Do you want her number?? I would do this over boarding any day!!

Re: What do you do with pet(s) when

We found a dog sitter near where we live (we are in NJ). We call it doggy camp...when we dropped him off there were like 12 dogs there! These people have all the dogs in their house...not locked up in cages or anything, just running around. He seemed to have a good time when we picked him up....but he was very tired from all the excersise he got running around.

We usually take cleo with us on the short trips since she is only 12 lbs, but for longer ones she gets boarded at Cozy Noses in Bohemia. She gets a 16 foot run of her own and is treated like a queen.

Re: What do you do with pet(s) when

My cats are ok with food and water for a few days and my aunt checks in on them every couple of days. But with Casey - we haven't attempted a weekend away without her yet. We bring her to my MIL's and FIL's and family's houses if we stay there. My aunt said she'd watch Casey if we go away but only if and when Casey calms down a little!!!!!! (And stops chewing). Re: What do you do with pet(s) when

Cats generally take care of themselves. All you have to do is leave them enough water and food.

But we still have either my mom or DH's sister come in and look after ralphie. In fact we are going away this weekend and DH's sister will be coming by and checking on the cat.

Re: What do you do with pet(s) when

I would see if I could find a dog sitter.

When our old cat Lucy was alive we were once thinking about putting her in a boarding place but were very concerned about how she would handle it. She was never around other animals and we didn't want the chance of her getting hurt by another animals cuz she was old and sick.

That's when my mom, and DH's sister both volunteered to take care of her. We never asked cuz we didn't want to burden them but they volunteered...

are you sure there is not a family member or friend that can watch your dog...
