Re: Gestational Diabetes
Sorry to jump in but....
I have a question about this also since I don't know anyone who had it. Is it something that you are going to get regardless or is it something that can be prevented?

Re: Gestational Diabetes
Your body can't process sugur correctly. Usually you go for a test where you drink something and then they take blood. There is a one hour and if you fail then you take the three hour. If you fail that then they treat you for it. Sometimes your dr will just put you on a restricted diet; other times you have to test your blood everyday. It is only when your are pg though and then once you have the baby it usually goes away.

Re: Gestational Diabetes
Usually there are no symptoms- sometimes you get really thirsty- I didn't have any symptoms only found out after 3 hour glucose. There is no way to prevent GD your placenta blocks insulin ,it almost always goes away after you give birth. They say that age and weight are factors.

Re: Gestational Diabetes
There is no symptoms. I failed the one hour and 3 hour test and I the nurse said she could tell I failed as soon as I spoke to her. She said my voice sounded shakey. I didn't think so.

So it really has nothing to do with your eating habits during pregnancy?

Nope..It has nothing to do with it. You may have to be careful if you get it during pregnancy because you are more at risk for developing type II diabetes later in life.

Re: Gestational Diabetes
No symptoms...I found out I had it very early on in my PG because of blood work. It almost always goes away after you give birth and can be controlled with diet and or insulin. It has nothing to do with the way you eat...it's your bodies resistance to the insulin production.

Re: Gestational Diabetes
I had GD while pregnant.. There are no symptoms and no prevention. Usually they say if your over weight before prego your chances are higher of having. I was about 100lbs before prego, so that wasnt the case. I had no symptoms before, i ended up being sent to a high risk prego office to see a nutrionist, she put me on a strict diet and had stick my fingers 4 times a day, 1-after waking up (fasting- most important) and then after every meal. If you cant control with diet then you may get put on insulin shots.

Re: Gestational Diabetes
I have it...i was doing good controlling it with diet at first, but the further into the pregnancy, the higher my fasting number got, so I was placed on an insulin pill that I have to take before dinner each night. I also have to do the finger pric 4 times a day. Kinda got used to it and once I deliver will be tested in the hospital again.
