Cell phones/Blackberries on cruises?
Does anyone know whether most cruise lines in the Carribean get cell phone reception? I'm trying to figure out if my blackberry will work while I'm away. Thanks!

We were on RCCL Liberty of the Seas and had reception with our Verizon phones. However San Juan we would have local charges as if we were in the US and St. Maartin and Labadee we had international roaming charges. So you will want to check with your provider as well if you'll have service available.
If you call the cruise line they'll be able to tell you. A lot of ships are working towards having their guests have the ability to use their phones

On Royal Caribbean's Liberty of the Seas and Freedom of the Seas you can use your cell phone. Those ships have cell towers on them. I was on the Liberty and used my cell phone the entire time (I have ATT/Cingular). My friend had Verizon and she wasn't able to use her phone.

I was able to use mine on the cruise to Bermuda...the only thing was that I couldn't get ATT service, I had to use whatever cell phone service the cruise ship was hooked up to so you have to be careful of roaming charges but in BErmuda I was able to use the phoen with ATT.

In the last year I've been on Carnival (Western Carribbean) and Norwegian (New York to Florida, Bahamas) and we didn't have cell service.

I had service this past summer when we went to Bermuda. I had out IT person set the BB up so it would work.
