Buy the knorrs turley gravy. It is so easy to make and then you can take whatever juices you have from the bird and add it to the pot. Lie, I tell people it is homemade.Chat Icon

I like the Knorr's or McKormick(?) powder. I agree with the above poster, just add some of the turkey juices. Semi-homemade and very good.

I roast my meat with some onions (for instance if I make a Roast Beef I sit the beef on top of the onions) they get all caramelised in the pan and I deglaze the pan with some wine, water, stock, and maybe some redcurrant jelly for sweetness. Then I simmer it for a few minutes with some fresh herbs and I pass it through a sieve so it has no bits in it. Its easy and delish. I love using the juice from the meat itself in my gravy.

Or you could buy some.

Like they say...Its all gravy baby.

Re: Gravy for the Clueless Thanksgiving Host

if it were me, I'd buy a bottle as insurance, but try to make home made Chat Icon if your gravy comes out great, you can always use the bottled stuff with a dinner recipe one midweek dinner.

when I make gravy from a bird, I put the baking pan with the drippings directly on the stove, turn the heat on low, and sautee minced shallots, chopped sage, thyme, and mushrooms in the grease (if there isn't enough, I add a bit of EVOO). Be careful that nothing burns... Add white wine to deglaze... scrape off the golden drippings that are stuck to the pan. Add chicken stock, poultry seasoning, and simmer. Combine a 1/2 cup of whole milk with 2T flour in a tupperware dish (shake it to combine), and add to the sauce. Stir until thickened, adjust salt and pepper and serve.

honestly I love to make homemade gravy from the drippings but on Thanksgiving, there are just too many people here and too much going on, no room on the stove etc... so I buy a few quarts of Stew Leonards homemade (in store) gravy. It tastes very close to mine, and its a great shortcut!
